Need advice on strategy on order of acquiring watches
I've kind of jumped back into this hobby with full force. I decided before anything else, there are 6 watches I want to acquire (4 Rolex, 2 Omega). These are the watches I've been interested in all throughout the time I've liked watches.
I only have 1 of the Rolexes, so 5 to go. And my budget is such that I can't go out and buy multiple at once, I would need to take my time. The 2 Omegas (Speedy Pro, SMP300) are readily available at below MSRP and I don't really see that changing anytime soon. The 3 Rolexes (Daytona, Sub, GMT) are all sports models so I'd have to go grey market. One "advantage" I have here is that 2 of these watches I want in a configuration that isn't as "hot". I'm ok with the TT white dial Daytona, and also the BLNR. What should be next on my list, and in what order would you recommend I acquire the watches? |

Maybe you can get the two Omega's first, then the Sub from the same AD with the purchase history you would now have with the Omega watches.
Two tone Daytona would be achievable from an AD also. Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk |

I would think as each becomes available for an attractive price you should buy.

Me personally, if going through AD I would go TT Daytona -> GMT -> Submariner, then Omegas.

As mentioned I would try to buy all the Omegas first from the AD, unless you already have a relationship, then get the Rolex pieces. The BLNR IMO will take the longest but who knows, you might get a lucky stroke.

It would be helpful to know where you are located.

I would identify which one you want next, buy it and enjoy. After a while your list may change.

The omegas will always be under retail. Deploy funds to Rolex. I’d start with the Daytona, then GMT and finally Sub.

Speaking from my own experience, I did TT Daytona, Sub, BLNR, and keep going back and forth on the SMP/Speedy options. I’d recommend that order, but if any of the Rolex came available earlier, I’d jump on those first (eg if BLNR is available first). If all from one AD, let them know you’re interested in all 5, and see what they can do. Just know that if they offer, you will want to be ready to buy most likely.

Omega is discontinuing the current Speedy Pro and coming out with a new model, possibly announcing it tomorrow. If you want the current one, get it now. If you want the new one, I would wait a while because discounts will increase as time goes on. Personally, I would get the current one.
Ideally, find a small, independent local dealer that carries both Omega and Rolex, although this may be difficult. Start with the Omegas and get on the list for the Rolexes. After getting the two Omegas, you may find yourself not wanting some of the Rolexes. As far as what else should be on your list, if you want a dress watch, I would consider a JLC Reverso. |
