I’m sure it’s fascinating, but not sure about delving into the mind of a guy like Mengele. If Hannibal Lecter was real, I’m not sure who would be a worse human being.

From another thread:
Latest three from my v & v engineer son for Xmas. I read Apollo in two days - amazing research. Which one next? I think the engineering book looks like fun the 33 strats of war looks like very hard work.

I just finished "The Sun Also Rises" by Hemingway. I wanted to give it another chance, because I didn't love it as a teen. I could appreciate it much more as a 34-year-old, but that doesn't mean I liked it a whole lot more this time around.
Now, I'm onto "Golden Panthers: Pitt's Ten-Year Affair With Football Prominence (1973-1982)" |

My son, who is a First Lieutenant in the Army, just gave me a copy of About Face, the memoir of COL David Hackworth. Looking forward to getting started on it soon.

Goodbye, Things - Fumio Sasaki. It's been a great read, helped me part with a lot of clutter.

A very 'illuminating' read. Highly recommended as all based on fact NOT opinion.
Puts in context the rise and fall of civilizations and illustrates the key role of 'trade' in this process. Very relevant in the light of China's "Belt & Road" initiative. Gives special meaning to the aphorism that "Those who fail to learn from the lessons of history are doomed to repeat its failures" (my paraphrase) There is a 'follow-up' book as well which I own but have not yet read.

I thought it was a fascinating read. Great context for life in the Soviet Republic at that time period and the ongoing chess match of the east vs west. Reads much more like fiction than traditional non-fiction. Highly recommend. It is what prompted me to read The Quiet Americans to better understand the CIA during the early periods of the cold War.

I am listening to an audio book, science fiction, about the end of the world. Compared to current newscasts I find it quite uplifting.

I’ve read it a couple of times but I always forget the details. “The taking of Getty Oil” by Steve Coll.

I read two to three books a week, so am always looking for recommendations.
Currently plowing through James Lee Burke series. I belong to a couple of major library ebook systems. Large selection for free. Listen to John Batchelor on the radio and he interviews authors daily so great recommendations from there, mostly history, but also other stimulating topics. I don’t have TV, thats the secret.
