you have a very good watch! but I insist that it is from 1976, but it doesn't matter, from 74 ’, 75’, 76 ’, they have the same value. and your watch is very honest.
You certainly may be correct about the 1976 part. I know on your watch (from reading your other post) you have a bracelet on yours that did not exist in 1974, so that makes sense. On my watch, I have a bracelet with no date code and the date codes started in 1976 from the info I have seen. That makes me think my bracelet is older than 1976. But again, I'm happy with the watch either way. If it turns out someday to be proven that it is not a 1974, that just gives me an excuse to hunt for another vintage watch :)

One question on the dial styles... the watch shown here looks like sun ray and applied gold crown to me, but what do you think? I can't say 100%, but it looks like I see a shadow from the crown...

the model you have exposed with the sunrays and the applied gold Rolex crown were service dials. only the original 1675s came with a matte dial and a gold crown applied to the dial.

Whoa. I had never noticed that characteristic before. So if I'm seeing that correctly, the I is to the right of the 30 minute marker. On my dial, it basically looks like there is no I at all. There is a minute marker between an "SW" and an "SS". There seems to be a 3rd possibility as shown in one of the pics from Rafabond - the I is colinear with the minute marker but the minute marker has a gap in it for the I to sit.

If the "I to the right" means service dial, can we say anything "for sure" about these other two styles?

my marker is like yours the "I" is not visible, it is the same marker. Another characteristic of these matte dials is that they are also called "radial dial" because of the separation between the minute markers (which are all the same size) and the nipples.

Normal:

Radial dial

You have a beautiful root beer. I wish that the newer version was with the sunray root beer dial of the 80’s version.

For those suggesting that only matte dial is correct for original root beer dial, this is not correct. Here is my 1675/3 from early 70s with service luminova dial and hands. The dial is clearly luminova since it glows and the plots are white. The dial has a very bright sun-ray effect.

The late 70s 1675/3 root beer also transitioned from the matte dial to a lacquered nipple dial. It has a more purplish hue than the service dial on my example. It still has a sun ray effect but less obvious. The lacquer tends to age and reveal the reddish undercoat, especially around the plots and date window.

Welcome to the club!

I adore my Root Beer 16753. One of the most attractive and distinctive sports models Rolex ever made, in my opinion
