I'm going to pull the trigger on this 1680

My search for a Submariner 1680 from 1973 has ended I hope!

This 1680 has been offered to me for a price within my budget. I’m posting the images here to see if anyone has comments regarding condition and such. I plan on contacting the seller tomorrow 4/20 to arrange for payment and shipping.

I'm not sure about the dial. It could be a service dial. I was planning to ask about it.

Hi there,
The watch itself looks in good shape.
A little bit overpolished but still thick lugs.
Why should the dial either be refinished or a service dial
Looks all Original as an MKII or MKIII maxi dial
Watch has even the Vintage cyclope #127 which is great and not a service one with that "sharp edges".....
Back a little bit scractched but OK.
Movement clean and OK!
Hands might me luminova ones from that pics...
Overall a great catch if the price is right

My search for a 1975 production sport model Rolex continues....

Aaron, it looks to be fine. Appears it may have a service replacement insert and hands. No biggie, but it might be worth trying to find out about the dial.

A RED would have be correct for a 73 timeframe. If I'm reading the serial number correctly, a 3.9 might be closer to 75. I'm good with white there.

I've seen conflicting information regarding the date. It has caused some confusion for sure. I know Rolex does not provide this information to the public. Can anyone here shed some light on this? My quest is for a 1973. I will pass on this head if it is not in the time frame.

Yeah, many will say serial number dating is difficult absent information from Rolex.

Oysterworld is one that is used by many and does seem to reflect numbers on known examples owned by collectors.

VFR is another one made up of actual owners watches, but you's appears to be in the "bubble zone".

It could have been a very early white or a very late red (closed 6s).

Without help from the mothership it can be a "best guess".
