Thoughts on next addition. YM37 or datejust 16220
Hello TRF, just looking to get some thoughts on my next piece I will add. I've played around with a few and consolidated recently to an explorer 114270 and speedmaster reduced 3539.50.
I am considering adding a Yachtmaster 37mm 268622 or a Datejust 16220. If anyone has any thoughts on which direction I could go towards that would be great. I'll add a quick list on what i like and potential negatives on each watch. Both are stunners and would be worn in regular rotation Rolex Datejust 16220 Pros: classic, versatile, strap monster, under the radar with engine turn bezel, price is 5k, perfect proportions, wouldn't have to baby it as much as it is brushed and SS Cons: not as flashy or 'standout piece', I am 29 and it kind of does look like a 'old mans' watch YM37 Pros: standout, more unique than the datejust, new Cons: bezel more prone to scratches, bracelet is quite thin even for a 37mm watch (17mm lug width tapering to 16mm), price is more than double the DJ For reference I have 6 inch wrist and have added pictures to show how it wears https://ibb.co/qJT8dcz https://ibb.co/19fFFnh https://ibb.co/ZcC5CFX Thank you! |

I like the ym an to be honest it looks like a 40mm on your wrist.....i was expecting it to look tiny....i think the bracelet is more proportioned than the dj....they are very different watches modern vs classic....the bezel does worry me ....my other half has the same model so and i am a little worried about the future of her bezel

I have the YM40 rhodium which on my 7 inch wrist looks about the same as the YM37 on your 6 inch wrist. I am biased but I say go for the YM. The platinum bezel is harder than the gold fluted bezel and unless it is a big gouge can be refinished easily.

Thanks, it is a hard decision. I have done a bit of googling too and have read some people say it scratches easily and other owners say it is super resilient.

The polished centre links will scratch easily but the bezel on mine has been resilient. It depends how you wear your watches. All watches will scratch so you have to get used to it if you want to wear it daily.

I also have the YM 40 Rhodium. Most comfortable watch I own. Wear it in regular rotation for a year and no scratches. The whole "scratch magnet" thing is exaggerated. |

DJ for sure, the YM is cool but overpriced while a DJ 36 is the best bang per buck Rolex you can get imo. For the price of a YM Id definitely prefer a different watch but nothing beats a DJ 36 in the 5-6K price range
Even if they cost the same Id rather have a new DJ 36 over a YM though, its a perfect all around watch |

If you can afford the price of a second hand YM 37, I would suggest looking for the new DJ 36 Jubilee / Fluted bezel (ref. 126234).
