This is very sad

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/04/20/dead.horses/index.html

Who would do this?? I love horses though I am not a huge follower of racing or polo. Being originally from Kentucky, I have always followed the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown races.

Just doesn't make sense why someone would do something like this. I wonder if it was someone on the team administering illegal drugs to the horses and maybe got a bad batch??

agreed...i hope it was not an intentional act, those Argentine Polo Ponies are magnificent, smart, gentle creatures.

It has been widely argued on the news on this side of the pond that they were / had been getting fed drugs and simply got a bad / cheap / incorrect batch.

I hope that any independent Post mortem will be able to get to the root cause of it all.

Ironically I can see "animal rights" activists doing this.

They were probably drugged with a bad dose.

I heard it was common practice to drug the horses before matches. Very sad.

So sad, I'm a huge horse lover and it's so unfortunate that this happened to them. RIP horsies :(

That must be more than coinicidence to have that many horses die at one time. If they were drugged I can't imagine what would be so powerful to make them all die like that. Sad hopefully they will find out what happened.

That place is in for a world of hurt. I doubt that they will be able to survive the lawsuits that are going to come out of this.

But did the pharmacy make the mistake, or did the vet prescribe the wrong dosage . The article isn't entirely clear.

EXACTLY what I was thinking, Chris. The horses were worth over 2 million in monetary value - priceless in real value.

It sounds like from what I have read that it was the pharama company's mistake in how they put together the dosage ("put together" - there's a science term for ya!). - basically too much of a certain compound?

Edit: It could be the vets fault for ordering incorrectly. Seantk - you were right, it's a little ambiguous at this point:
