Gifts For AD?

OK , so I know this may sound strange. I have heard it said from some that after receiving the call from the AD and picking up a desired piece and treated well some have sent them a thank you note with a small gift. Something like tickets to a game or a gift card to a restaurant. I know this may sound over the top after spending a great deal of money and then sending them a gift for selling it to you. Anyone ever do this ? Thoughts on how this might help an ongoing relationship?

It’s not a strange question Jim.

There are a few threads on this.

A search might locate them or someone might have a link?

Have we really come to the point to gifting ADs to keep them happy

i mean, no one should feel obligated to kiss ass to spend thousands of dollars...

if you have that feeling then don't do it. but if you feel at times over the moon because an SA helped acquire you what hundreds of other people also desire but can't get at retail, and you just want to reciprocate / say thank you, then a small gift never hurts... im sure the gesture itself goes a long way.

I would have thought the commission they make on the thousands of dollars you hand them would be "gift" enough

My AD experience was great even with no history with them. Getting my bank to let me spend a fraction of the money I have on deposit with them, not so easy. It all worked out and I love my Sub.

They should be giving you something due to the profit on the watch

No harm in some chocolates or bottle of wine/fizz
Much more and it becomes borderline creepy, and can be awkward.

Certainly in the Uk there are strict bribery and corruption rules so much more than a small gesture could backfire.

Seems unfavorable, but I gifted my SA and the manager each a bottle of 12Y Macallan. Not overly expensive. It was my way of showing them my appreciation, especially when they quoted 12 weeks but got it to me in 3.

Gifts For AD?

This was the bottle I gift to my ad when they called me for the Green sub, starbuck/Kermit/Cermit last year. To show my gratitude, they always so nice to me.

I personally do not gift. I am however a loyal customer and will continue to be. I do vouch their excellent customer service and refer personal friends to them who are interested in watches.

I can’t imagine having my traders offer gifts to our brokers because we helped them get money. It’s the other way around. Each year we receive lofty gifts because without us they would not have business.

A nice bottle of wine for the individual involved and then something for the whole store at Christmas (i.w. Box of chocolates or cakes) is my preferred approach.

But not because the watches are hard to get and i want preferential treatment, but just because that’s how i like to do business. My general view is that whilst stores do very well out of me, the actual Sales Advisor probably doesn’t do so great, so when they give me great service, why would i not do the decent thing and say thank you to them.

I don’t see it as being any different to giving the postman or refuse collectors a ‘Christmas Box’. It’s just a nice and decent thing to do. I sure as hell used to appreciate it when i was a paperboy, or when i received a tip for taking something heavy to a customers car when i worked in a garden centre.

But don’t do it because you want hard to get watches, that’s just false and transparent. Do it because it’s just the right thing to do (at least that’s what I believe is true in England).

A couple of times a year I will buy my AD some chocolates. She is a beautiful lady, she doesn’t get me the pieces I want, but that’s ok, well.....
Sort of!
She is still a great person to deal with and to know.

Last time I was there she gave me some sweets that she made.

Refuse people and postmen do a job that is not exactly glamorous, throughout all weather and does not attract high paying customers. Completely different!

And generally it’s a big no from me. My gift is my custom and unless they’ve gone out of their way in an extreme fashion to get me a something, I’d say it’ll never ever happen and at most it would be some £10 chocolates from Tesco.

I’d rather donate the money.

Gifts For AD?

I grace them with my presence...

But seriously, my AD gets me presents for Christmas for being a good customer.

I always get gifts to the sellers over at my usual Diesel boutique when they manage to get me my size 29 jeans from another Diesel boutique if it's not available - it's a great favor they do me you know, really go out of their way for me.

Same for the Rolex

Obviously it's up to the individual, but personally I'd never gift an AD anything.

Being graciously allowed to spend several thousand pounds/dollars isn't a gift-worthy thing IMO - it's just the salespeople doing their job, and on that particular day your name was either top of the list, or in the forefront of their mind for whatever reason. Maybe you'd called earlier that day when a new shipment arrived... who knows.

Now if an AD had absolutely gone above and beyond over something, then maybe, but when I felt my AD had done just that (and it wasn't for simply supplying a watch I wanted), my "gift" to him was an email to the director of the company telling him what a superb job the guy had done. If that pays off for him at his annual review then that's great, but sucking up just for being allowed to buy something they sell isn't on my radar.

When I bought my 116508 last week my SA at the AD really went above and beyond. He had asked me to come down to look at something unrelated for my wife and he had this whole mini reveal planned out. I thought that was really great customer service. So I wrote him simple note and gave him a restaurant gift card to say thanks for the effort he put into making it a memorable purchase experience.

I don’t think there is anything wrong in say I appreciate the effort. My patients bring in food and small things for my staff all the time.

Fair enough, I guess we were brought up in different ways. No right or wrong.

I’ve worked in shops, and I’ve delivered mail. From my experience, I’d much rather deliver Mail than deal with customers in a shop. And most postmen i know, thoroughly enjoy their job.

I've done this in the past when an AD would get me pretty much what I wanted. Only a token box of chocolates though and it was appreciated by them.

Anything beyond a token could be misconstrued
