Question for the group

So I have a question for everyone. One month ago I stopped in to a local AD that I have been in numerous times over the past two years. Never bought a watch and my spend history had been limited to a pair of gold earrings for my wife. I always talk Rolex with the same SA each time I go in. So this time i finally mentioned to him that I know what watch I want to get in addition to the Sub I have. The Deep Blue. He took down my information and told me he could definitely get this for me as he only has a few others waiting for it. I was very excited when I left that day.

Yesterday I stopped in with my wife. We entered the Rolex boutique area and she met the SA and I asked how we are looking for my quest. He asked me which watch it was again? Then took down my information again and told me he has a couple people waiting but could probably do it. My wife even told him how obsessed I am with owning a Deep Blue. Our reason for the trip to the store that day was because in exchange for me getting this new Rolex, my wife wanted to get a new setting and wedding band. We laughed at that and he introduced me to one of the girls in the store who could help my wife find the right one.

About a half hour later he came across the store to where we were and showed me a YM II offering that one to me. Very nice watch I must say, but I declined as I really have my heart set on this SDJC. He once again told me he would see what he can do. I should add that this SA is a really nice guy and very knowledgable about Rolex. I always seem to learn something new about them after spending some time talking with him.

So when We walked out after making the purchase and my wife leaving her diamond there to be set, I felt a little disappointed that I had just started out all over again. WE will be returning in 2-3 weeks when her new rings are ready to pick up.

I'm wondering if the forum thinks I should be encouraged or discouraged. One month ago I was so excited to think that perhaps by summer I would have that watch on my wrist. Now while I'm still hopeful, I'm not so sure.

the fact he asked you again what was the watch you were interested in and wrote it down again means the first time he didn't even try, I would look for another AD

Just because he asked and wrote down what watch you wanted again, doesn’t mean he didn’t have your request from before. I would not get discouraged. These AD lists are subjective, meaning the person on top of the list isn’t necessarily the next person to be called. The Deepsea DB is much more obtainable then other stainless sport models. You are also buying jewelry from them. Just stay in touch with your SA and I suspect you will get the call sooner than you think.

Try keeping in closer contact. Follow up with email to SA thanking him for the attention and how you are looking forward to your watch. In a week or two drop in and say hi. Then week or two email and so on... part of this horrible game with AD is to be on top of mind. Hope you get your watch soon.

So sick of this song and dance with the ADs - with all due respect but just a bunch of maybe above average sales people who've gotten to breathe thinner air because they rub elbows with folks who can afford to spend above average money on luxury items. Well, not for me. I tried with Eiseman in Dallas - super nice SA, we exchange emails, I never pressured for anything - and now I've been waiting for a Pepsi since 2018. Bought multiple watches, jewelry from them...and my place in line is still my place in line. Give me a break!

I have since bought a Pepsi from DavidSW...it's not all that...sold it and moved on. Also had the SkyD blue from another gray...hype...sold that too.

If you want a Rolex, go to DavidSW, awesome guy, you'll have a much better experience than the stuck-up, "I sell out the back door" SA at your local jeweler.

SA didn’t even remember what watch you wanted, which means they didn’t remember you as a customer. They have strung you along to buy earrings and now have a new setting for your wife’s rings. I’m presuming they’ll try to milk you for a few geebo’s more before you get your watch. Play their game or go Grey. It’s literally that simple and nothing more than a personal preference. I would not waste a minute of my time with them, however you know the situation better than we do.

You're being gently played. It's what sales people do when they have no inventory. He has no control over what they get in, and probably has last say in who gets what watch. Don't loose sleep over it, maybe it will happen.

Who knows, JLo may call me back now that she's split from Arod. We both have about the same chance.

I think you will get one soon from them now. At least I hope you do, rooting for you. But if you love it just go grey and get it before your wife picks up her new ring.

I started working with my SA in September. I was looking to upgrade the center stone on my wife’s engagement ring and also express my interest in a GMT II and Explorer 2. Finally pulled the trigger on her stone in December. At the time there was an Oris Aquis Date I had been looking at that was 25% off. Win/win as they didn’t want them on display and it was something I was already looking at due to the color combo.

In February, I went back with my wife to turn her old center stone into a necklace. After helping my wife with her selections, my SA pulled GMT II in a coffin box out of his pocket and offered it to me. Sounded like it was the first one they had received in a month or two and that he had to fight against the other SAs in order to offer me.

Who knows how much of his story is true and how much is salesmanship to try to secure future business. I don’t care. I like the guy, my wife likes the guy, and he is more consultant than pushy salesman. I’m going to continue to buy things for my wife and I’m sure I’ll have a chance for the Explorer 2 and the other GMT II I’m still interested in.

If you feel like your business isn’t valued you should explore other options. If you like who you’re working with be patient, it will happen.

This item is not super hot, eventually you will get it from them within 6 months.

It's better to get it from AD so you can have a good relationship with them for future timepieces.

Unrelated but what does the wedding band mean? Does one should offer a new wedding ban to the wife at some point? Genuine question.

I don't think that is necessarily true. He may have had them down in his notes for James Cameron/Deep Sea.

The Deep Sea is not an easy watch to get, but it is far from impossible.

Hang in there OP. Hopefully, you will get a call soon. The fact that he offered you a YM II is a good sign he is willing to help you out.

Patience. A little luck. And say hello any time you’re close to the store. No one REALLY knows.

When I was looking for my Sub, and initially met with the manager at my AD, he had taken my information down. I did a jewelry repair which required ordering a clasp for a bracelet. When I went back and they rung me up, my information was not in their system (this was my first time purchase). I felt a bit discouraged. When we asked, he said he had put me in his personal notes. I started thinking this was the game.

The next week I got the call. They see a ton of people daily, it’s not easy to keep track of what each individual wants. You’ll get it.

If you’re tired of waiting I’d go gray. They don’t sell for a huge amount over MRSP

A 50% markup premium can be pretty huge.

Just because he didn’t remember the watch you wanted, I don’t think that means he wrote down your info and threw it away. My SA writes it down and keeps it on file somewhere. When something on my list is available, he sends me a text.

The Deep Sea J.C. Was on my list and I got the text around June of last year. Tried it on and realized it was like a brick and too similar to my SD43 size wise and passed. My wife keeps reminding me I should have bought it as she loved that beautiful dial, but the next watch he offered me was a Pepsi surprise so I’m not looking back.

I think you may be on track, but be patient as factory shipments are very slow right now. Just stop in every 3 to 4 weeks to chat and I think your day will come.

Good luck.

Try bundling next time. Offer to buy the jewelry at the same time as the watch. You might be surprised what shows up.

Life is short, if you can’t get one at a AD. https://davidsw.com/shop/watch/rolex...ler-d-blue-59/
