Recasing

Curious on your thoughts/opinions on what recasing does to the value/desirability of a watch. I’m looking at a 335 that has been recased, but has all the paperwork from Panerai. I would think it would have an adverse impact on the value since it’s not all original. Would it be harder to sell down the road?

I can't imagine it would make any material difference on the value, particularly if there's paperwork. 335 is part of their contemporary line; so not really the same as if a discontinued historical model (21 or 203..?) was being re-cased.

is the pricing of the particular watch "lower" than other examples of the 335 on the market? If not, that helps support the thesis.

The asking price is about $2,250 more than one that was listed on TRF about a month ago. It looks to be overpriced even if it wasn’t recased, but wasn’t sure if it was worth negotiating down even more as the seller is open to offers.

Yeah, perhaps part of the pricing rationale was that a re-casing means it's been brought back to "like new." replacing a case on a ceramic Panerai is pretty costly.

I don't have any real knowledge on this other than my opinion. But if a watch I was after was re-cased at the factory I would view it as a positive rather than a negative. However, I don't think I'd pay much if any over market for it.
