At this point it doesn’t matter what Rolex does. They can put their name on anything and flippers and grey dealers will buy up all the inventory and list it at higher prices and there will be fools that will pay it just because they can’t walk into a dealer and buy it out of the case.

Explorer 2, not the obvious choice, not for the InstaFacers FOMO idiocy, not blingy with PCLs and shiny bezels...A proper legible dial for eyes over 40....Almost obtainable...
Farewell to the last of the ruggedly thoughtful, gentlemens Rolex.

My stainless bezel has been up to temples in Sri Lanka, beaches in Hawaii, ping pong bars in Bangkok, and hiking across the North Yorkshire moors with an ice cream in Scarborough and it has little scratches and swirls to remind me of those times.
Pretty sure most of those ceramic bezelled Explorers will only see the dark inside of safes for the first few years, with the occassional Instagram flex as their owner daren't ding their investment value...

There is a part of me that is holding on to the hope the new ExpII is still all SS, in a smaller case (current GMT case as it used to be in the 5 digit reference)

The bezel was awful in my opinion, the reason I sold my Explorer II, so boring looking compared to the ceramic bezels

I don't like the idea of a ceramic bezel on the Explorer II, but it might make sense if Rolex were to offer a warranty on the bezel and replace it for free if it can be shown that it was broken in an actual spelunking incident. Breitling does that for their Emergency watch, replacing the antenna for free if it is pulled in an actual emergency. Most accidental breakages would not be covered, but spelunkers would be protected. Just a last minute thought here. :)

I doubt it, ceramic bezels aren't the new answer for everything and the brushed bezel is part of its rugged history. If it does go, oh well I'm glad I bought mine new three years ago, it's a keeper.

As someone that’s smashed their Pepsi ceramic bezel to smithereens after dropping it on the floor id say I’d rather climb Mount Everest with a steel Bezel 😂

That was the number one worst prediction I've ever heard..It got to the point of being very boring. I'm glad it's finally put to rest.

X2, all those experts predicting or trying to drive design suggestions for the last few years can finally pivot to something new.

well, it wasn't pulled completely out of thin air....

No doubt Rolex had some samples mocked up with ceramic bezels made at some point and thought it would be funny to put one in their video, knowing people would start blowing up the exposure and shadow details looking for clues....
that's def an inset black bezel, with light colored font...

So pleased that Rolex didn’t ceramic-ize the Explorer II as it would have ruined an excellent watch, now I suppose I should get my derrière in gear and get down to my AD and ask them to get one for me.

But white or black?

I've got a 216570 on my wrist right now- shadow doesn't make the very black filled numbers pop white.
Rolex will have all manner of design prototypes that never see the light of production, why not use them to occassionally troll the forums and grays...

Probably a solidworks rendering with gloss metal bezel.

We really don't either of us know. I think a creatively lit and no doubt heavily produced video could easily make the actual bezel look dark. You think its a prototype. I am sure they do make prototypes but I can't agree that it's definately a black ceramic bezel watch in the video.

Regardless...thank God it stayed steel.

It’s not beyond the realms of impossibility that the release was indeed going black ceramic bezel at some point. I imagine a lot of head scratching at Rolex with which way to go on this one but ultimately I’m glad it remained steel.
A black ceramic bezel would have killed the polar but looked alright on the black dial.
Either way, we will never know.

I too never liked the look of the photoshops of the EXII with a black ceramic bezel. I've always been pushing for maybe use of like tungsten or some other new scratch resistant ceramic/metallic material which would keep the essence of the EXII, but maybe add some real world practicality.

That's exactly what I initially thought about the current Daytona, and still think it's true. Clearly most people were not bothered by a complete change in it's look...they seem to manage to sell them.
