It is the go to brand for show off instantly recognisable jewellery. Absolutely no other brand (and not just watch brands) in the world even comes close.

And that attracts wealthy people all the time, group identification is built into the human psyche. And every body aspires to be wealthy.

Sure. I’ve even heard of the more obscure ones like LV, Gucci.

Funny thing is, if Rolex went into any of the stuff they do and kept to its principles, Rolex would smash their market share as well.

Couldn't tell you. I thought we were in a bubble 2 years ago. In hindsight, wish I'd bought more then! Think you have to buy what you want and enjoy it.

Of course, this is a bubble. Those saying this market will only go up and never crash (cheapest day to buy is today) are wrong, even if we look to recent history. When COVID hit in March 2020, you could find a ceramic Daytona for $20k. A mere 13 months ago, prices crashed off their highs of $25k at that time and Daytonas traded, very briefly, at $20k. Now, they are $30-$35k. So, there will be market corrections along the way. Long term prices will likely rise, but like in any market, there will be far better buying opportunities than today.

Sucks for new sincere customers who aspire to own a Rolex, there's little to no chance from an AD and most normal people have no idea what buying from a grey even means.

My view is it will get worse, forget about the bubble crap, it doesn't exist except in the minds of dreamers.

Edit: unless you want a Datejust, there's hope maybe, even an OP is now difficult to source.

Prices won’t drop anytime soon. And I don’t wish for the correction it would take to make the bubble burst! Be thankful we are where we are, despite a tragic year.

I like Rolex too but let’s cut the hyperbole. Rolex is a top 10 luxury brand, nothing more and nothing less.

For sure, and the people who take advantage of these corrections are almost always never the ones waiting for these opportunities because they specialise in waiting, and not doing.

Rinse, repeat.

Yes, thanks for proving my point. Rolex does not sell a lot of what they sell. By choice.

Rolex does not sell jewellery, clothes, bags. Only watches.

Strip out all non watch revenue from these other luxury product makers and tell me who even comes close to Rolex?

Or the fact that Rolex could easily generate far more revenue than it does simply by raising msrp? Making and selling more watches?

Reading threads like this one, must be mandatory for new interns at Rolex in Geneva

Everything you stated was pure conjecture and speculation. You think if Rolex got into the jewelry business they could take on Cartier? Based on what? Any one of those brands could also generate more revenue by raising MSRP. Rolex is top dog in watches but by no means does this translate to top dog in everything if they decided to do it. That’s nonsense. Maybe they should make cars too and take on Ferrari....

In fact Rolex was the only brand on that list besides Coach that had less revenue in 2020 than 2019. Looks like they should look at how those other luxury brands sustained and gained during 2020 when they couldn’t. I love Rolex but the attitude that they are best and do everything perfect on this forum is a bit out of whack, even when compared to their peers in the luxury game.

Suppose the economy stays the same, the bubble will pop if they increase supply. But they're much better at this game than most of us. Probably the best.

Lots of woulda/coulda/shoulda but didn't.

Small percent actual buyers

I dont know but I tried selling a rolex DJ and the demand seemed to be much much lower compared to only just 3-4 months back.
Looks like people aren't playing the game anymore.

There's a flow to demand as well.

New releases are always hot and in demand.

At the end of the model year cycle people will be itching to buy any Rolex in anticipation for a new model to scratch that itch. Sort of a panic purchase. So you'll see lots of random Rolex selling quickly in the months leading up to new releases. Christmas is always a big buying season too.
