Through thick and thin.....the 3135 still rules!!

Hi guys,

Notice how Rolex have NEVER changed the 3135 movement ever since its inception way back in 1989.

Twenty solid years now and this movement still rules. So much so that Rolex decided to carry on with the same calibre even in their latest high-tech model, the DSSD.

This speaks volumes for the respect that this calibre must command!!

Long live the 3135 movement.

JJ

As long as it's properly lubricated and serviced. Very critical for the 3135.

Ok we all agree that the 3135 movement is super movement. Now how, or what do you think Rolex will do to improve it, or maybe replace it? Ron

Yes agree a great movement but IMHO the 15XX series still the finest Rolex has made. But to design and re-tool for a completely brand new movement costs millions. Thats why excepting the chrono and ladies, basically the rest of the lineup are just clones of the Cal 3135 with or without added complications.Just like today with cars many models and different brands share the same basic chassis and floor pan. Just fitted with a different body keeps the cost per unit down.

Afraid by just by fitting the in-house escapement hairspring don't make a new calibre

Well, good question actually; but if Rolex couldn't come up with some kind of modification for the last 20 years, then I guess that's it - we are stuck with this superb calibre and I don't think there's room for any further improvement!!

Yes 3135 is great, but.....

It kind of speaks to either the beancounters not wanting to invest money in a newer, better movement, or the arrogance of Rolex. The Japanese designed the Seiko Spring drive, an automatic, that has accuracy advertised at 1 second a day, and very often delivers 1 second a week. Yes, I know it has an electronic magnetic brake type adjustment, but it is an automatic, no batteries, and it is super accurate. I suppose when Seiko can shed the image of a $200 watch, and start competing with Rolex, then they might change.

We'll never need to worry about lack of parts as there will always be a market for them.
