To Moby33 and Yves - thanks very much for your reassurances. The SDDS is a great watch, certainly one of the best I've had for many years. As for the bezel, I believe you have to press it down before turning it anti-clockwise, then release it once you've turned it to the required spot. That way there's no "give'' if you try and turn it clockwise. It's actually very similar to my Sinn U1000 in this respect and I think Rolex should highlight the need to depress the bezel before turning.

We did have a job to get it imported in Belgium , I lost it because of my fathers sudden death and as it was in his name his second wife got her paws on it along with plenty of other stuff . I still have a Porsche 356C super90 in the garage in my mums place in Portugal . The engine blew up on the Estoril race track as every other saturday classic cars could use the track ( 1991 -1994) The poor thing is rusting away since , I should have it repaired but the estimate exceeds its commercial value . Better off buying another one .
I'd love a Porsche RS 2.7 ( mid 70's ) but as always ... nothing is too expensive its only us not making enough money ...

LOL...I know a thing or two about some European makes/models that never made it to the states (thanks to Top Gear and a few publications) and I agree with you in that us Yanks should be thankful for that fact.

I'm not far from Pacific Palisades...and the drive from Redondo Beach up the coast is probably one of the wife & my most enjoyable drives...probably do it at least once a week in one of the classic cars.

Good luck w/ the RS 2.7 search...those are true classics. I love your last line...going to have to remember that one.

Yep, you got it right on the GTO...the longest of the lot. While it's tough to get into a garage, I must admit the length adds to an EXTREMELY smooth ride...she glides over every bump like she's floating on air. The Vette on the other hand is back breaking & sharp yet a blast to hammer...got to love that lightweight all fiberglass body...you can drift the rear-end out on the car down the whole street with hardly any effort on the gas pedal.

I haven't taken my DS off for my 6+ months of ownership and can name the amount of times it's been noticed/complimented - that being ZERO. Well, maybe it has been noticed, but nobody has said a thing. And you know what...I could care less! I didn't buy this watch for other people and I sure don't care what others say or how they react. To be honest, I prefer nobody notices/comments as I don't really like talking about my watches with complete strangers I run into around town.

I think you're looking at it all wrong...embrace the lack of attention and snide comments...embrace them like a badge of honor. IMO comments like the ones you pointed out say more about the person talking than anything coming out of their mouth.

Yes , the 250 GTO was extremely long , do you remember the 288 GTO ( '80s) that thing was wider then the first 512 testa rossa . In germany they had to "cheat" on the tech data as otherwise it would have been considered as "LKW" commercial vehicles , truck .

Hey, believe me, if I had the money to own multiple Rolexes (lets say 5), the DSSD would be in my stable no doubt. There is something so cool about it, and there are instances where I would love to wear a larger ('oversized' - not intended to cause offence) watch for when I am having a particularly active 'masculine day' and I want something that would be able to handle any environment I may find myself in... That said, I just couldnt own one as my 'one & only', despite having appreciation for it, as there are (IMO) more appropriate choices for office/everyday wear (oyster bracelet DJ or daytona for example).

You are in the priveleged position of being able to own both a Daytona and a Deep Sea, so congratulatons, and a perfectly reasonable stable!

In case the tone of this is misconstrued by anyone - i'm not trying to put across that 'i give my approval, so therefore it is okay'! ;)

I defenatly don't buy Rolex or any other watch to show off , we live in the wrong area to do that if you wanted to anyway . Most people around here do not know the difference between Timex or Rolex for that matter . I have had Rolex watches for over 25 years ( I'm 45 now ) amongst them the elusive 16520 and 116520 ( still have them both ) and I have hardly had any remarks on any of them , and I was quite happy to keep it that way . just that SDDS draws all kind of remarks and funny enough no real compliments .
As I said I don't give a damn if people don't like my SDDS , I do .

the deep sea for me has been my stepping stone (a rather pricey stone for that matter) into the larger timepiece designs. At the moment i rotate between the deep sea and my u-boat classico.... my other pieces are now stored nicely in my safe while these two are worn and on rotation.

as ive mentioned i had the opportunity to go ss daytona white dial or deep sea and i took the deep sea in a heartbeat...... its just so unique and there is no other rolex model like it.
