Tudor 79180 service, RSC say I might have to lose the Rolex crown????

The rotor of my new (for me) Tudor Chrono starting playing the 12th Street Rag so I sent it down to my Son to drop in to Bexley RSC during his lunch-break, he just rang me saying the technician guy says the watch can be serviced & the rotor bearing fixed no problem, however he advised that Rolex "may not" return the watch with a Rolex Trip-lock crown after the service.

My son asked which Trip-lock would be used, a Tudor? To which the guy said that they'll have to think on that!!??

I understand that the crown, stem & seals etc are all replaced as part of a usual service but I don't get not using a Rolex Trip-lock replacement as per the original ??

My son left strict instructions that they should call me before sending the estimate for the repair so we can discuss exactly what will be replaced or substituted.

Meanwhile I'd really appreciate your thoughts guys

No, no, no, no, no no,no, no- NO!!!

The Rolex crown has to be kept. Different story if you had a Tudor crown & wanted them to put a Rolex crown on. If that's their logic, then they will also replace the caseback with a Tudor one as well, surely??!!

Speak to someone else. This doesn' sound right at all. You can probably tell it's made me a little bit angry!

I agree w/ Tony. My watchmaker [w/ Rolex parts account] was able to replace the Rolex triplock crown with the same. It's those attributes that have elevated their value and will continue to.
I would be just as proud to own and wear any with Tudor shields but keeping originality is key. And it's not like the Rolex Triplock crown is not available anymore.
Good luck, Chris.

Exactly- originality is key here. Otherwise Rolex wouldn't correct modified watches & would service those PVD watches that are being done independantly. They are the ones that have maintained the originality theme, so they can't move the goalposts when it suits them.

That is exactly how we "lost" so many COMEX dedicated dials.

I agree, although it is a small thing, 'originality' is key, and if it had the Rolex crown when it left the factory, that is how you should try and keep it. Nothing against Tudor here
