Many people buy a Rolex for a status symbol but I don't care if anyone notices my Rolex. In fact, I prefer if they don't but if they do, then I hope they will just think that I like nice watches or have good taste.

Nothing! If someone is noticing my watch they don't know nothing about me! And I also don't care what others think.

Well not really for status symbol but more for of proving to myself that I was able to go the distance. Spending 20K on watches in 2 months was an affluence I can't even dream off before but now it is a reality

I've been told by a couple of people (1 a friend, the other a good collegue at work) that I have way too much disposable income on my hands.

My friend said it was one thing to spend $$$$ on my SD, but to turn around two years later, sell it, and buy a brandnew SDDS is just pure madness to him.

He finished by also comment that "It must be nice having all that cash and being able to buy on a whim".

PS; He's married, I'm single and debt free

How true.....a few years back when I moved to Chicago I no longer need a car so I sold my BMW and bought a platinum DD Masterpiece.....some collect cars....I collect watches....easier to maintain and park!

You like the best. There are many people who could afford a rolex, but think that $6000 for a SS watch is too much. Rolex says that you like the best of the best.

Well, if they look at my watch then at my carbon fiber 14lb bicycle then glance at my 1994 "seasoned" Toyota 4x4 truck they might have a good idea as to my priorities.

Me too. . . Almost. They see my 14.5-lb Wilier LeRoi full Campagnolo Record road bike on the road, my 2006 BMW M3 coupe around town, and figure I like quality engineered items. It works, as I'm a mechanical engineer.

I don't know who "they" are, but if it were me, I'd think, bicycle and another BMW and nothing else would cross my mind. Most status items exist that way only in the mind of the owner.
