AD doesn’t care what you do once you leave the building. These days if you received a hot model you’re most likely a returning customer anyways, that’s all they care about.

I would rather never purchase another Rolex if I had to worry my AD was monitoring what I did with the watches I had purchased.
There is a matter of principle involved here. My watch purchased with my cash to do with what I want. My first Rolex was a Submariner purchased 4 years ago. When I asked about trading for a GMT I was offered half of what I had paid for it four month previously. It's a business. |

In my view buying a watch you do not like or intend to wear but only to resell it is flipping. If you buy a watch to wear and decide at any time its just not for you, move it on and find something else you like more. This has always been the case except a few years back we lost money on everything we sold, so nobody cared what we did. The more we bought the happier the ADs were.

Your watch, your money involved. Your AD is not thinking about you when they sell a hot watch to another customer they just tell you to sit down and wait your turn. May happen or not. Worrying about what is going to happen is like paying a debt you do not owe. Buy/Sell/Trade as you please with who ever you want and who will do a fair deal with you. Leave nothing on the table in value as you will never recoup it moving forward. Go get the watch you want and move on.

If you're looking to maintain the relationship, presumably you're in the market for a new one, so enquire about a trade-in. I think offering right-of-first-refusal is a classy move (even if you ultimately end up selling at market value).

This ranks right up there with posts like...”My wife won’t let me buy the watch...”.
Some people on here act like thy are 12 years old and have to ask their Mommy (wife) or their AD if they can buy (or sell) a watch. JFC |

Uh, going to have to disagree there: for those that consider $5-20,000 a substantial purchase, talking to their spouse first seems like the right thing to do, no?

This is why I always sell it back to my AD. Don’t even want to have to think about this and/or deal with the shipping, emails, etc. As long as I get my money back. The AD rewards me later.

IF you sell a hot sports watch after 3 + years of ownership ?
If you don’t believe your AD cares about what happens to a Rolex after sale, buy one Rolex a week and tell your AD each time you buy a new one that you sold the previous one right after you bought it.
Doesn’t even have to be a ‘hot’ reference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Good question! I've only ever bought watches I intend to keep forever, but it's got me thinking......if the AD called and suggested a top model was available, I'd probably part ex one if I needed the £££. Would be a very tough call to make. Good thread.

Actually the AD’s and greys are on many of the same what’s app groups etc. and when they get watches and try to sell to each other they can quickly find out who sold it initially. My AD has nailed a few guys this way. Bigger issue though is that if it’s not your jam anymore can you move on? Well unless your AD owns you, sell away.

I’ve never once considered how a watch salesperson looks at me. If I want to buy a watch, I try the AD first, if they can’t deliver in a reasonable timeframe then I go grey. If I want to sell a watch, I find the best buyer, whoever and whenever.
It’s your money and your property. Just be a nice person and do with it what you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Who cares. All you people keep going on and on about how no one can buy a watch at an AD anyway. ; )
