Truth is, I am finding it difficult to wear all of the watches I own. Serious considering taking a hiatus from purchasing any more watches and possibly even getting rid of some pieces. For example, I own a 2020 Speedmaster hesalite that I thought I would like more than a really do. Looks great, but I find myself reaching for something else to wear most of the time.

I have a GMT Master II, which I love, but really try not to wear it because I find the bracelet sucks and I reach for a glidelock sub most of the time. Anyone else been through this? What did you do, start selling your watches?

‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. At least you have a personal understanding of the Rolex collection obsession, a range of feelings about each one you’ve owned. That’s a treasure in itself, I hope. But I’m talking my own book, because I’ve run very hard at buying a collection and know that I need to reduce it. But you miss the ones that go so much! Imponderable, but great question. Good luck. I’ve thought of selling three or four and going all in on a 5980 1AR. Always the next one...

I was a one watch guy until I bought my 2nd 3rd 4th and 20th. I try to rotate all I can but usually pick from the Rolex and I do have my favorites which are two 5 dgt sports. I find myself wearing the DJ41 and Zblue over the other 6 dgt sports. I think of selling a few but I find it hard to commit to actually going through so I tell myself their not doing any harm by keeping.

I’m retired so my full time job is wearing all my watches on a rotation. I tend to wear my better watches more but I still get to my citizens, Casios Tissots and Seikos every few weeks.

I’m at 4 now:

Submariner 116610LN
Explorer 214270 mk2
Seiko SPB143
Seiko Alpinist SPB121J1

While the Explorer is my true baby, I find enough time to rotate through them all. My Rolexes stay on their bracelets while the Seikos are on a Tropic Rubber and Horween leather strap respectively. That alone gives each one an extra reason to be worn

I have had this happen a few times over the course of building my collection. It resulted in multiple consolidation steps.

At the moment, I have a two tier collection. I have the watches I wear everyday without much regard to what I bump them into. This applies to my IWC and Rolex pieces.

And then I have the watches I collect, from a certain brand in eastern Germany. Those I treat as if they were vintage cars in the garage. I will take them out for a spin every now and then, but they deserve to be treated with care and I don't waste them on random days at the office. It would likely not be the right message towards colleagues and clients either.

OP, I guess you are not alone in considering consolidating to just a handful, most frequently worn watches. I am also thinking along the same lines and have already made up my mind that will be only keep 6 or so Rolex watches and the rest will end up in one of the trusted reseller's inventory.

debating myself to jump back to Omega and start getting a few. Had a SM 300 James Bond for 18 years and loved the heaviness of it on my wrist. Sold it recently for $600 more than what i paid for it. I know Omega wont go up in value like Rolex, but good watch to bring back into my collection

Recently I was in the same situation also, switching between a few watches, changing the watch everyday.

Somehow I feel that wearing one watch for a whole full month or longer then switch to the other one is better. Slowly wear it out until you get bored then switch to the next.
