Pre owned sub 14060M

Hi all I am after some advise please. I have never owned a Rolex and am approaching 40 so wanted to treat myself. I have been researching for a month or so now and am ready to purchase my watch. I have seen a pre owned sub 14060M 2001 at my local AD which I am going to look at this Friday, my question is.. to my knowledge this model was a 2 liner until 2007 when it then turned into the 4 line. The AD has stated the watch has undergone repair and that they have replaced the dial. The dial they have installed is the 4 line. So my question is will this affect the value of the watch? Should they not have installed the original 2 line dial? The watch is £8,250

Thanks in advance.

Since the prior Subs were never COSC tested and certified, an earlier Sub should not have been fitted with the later Chronometer dial.

It isn't really a big deal, it just isn't proper.

Imho, you can't go wrong with either version of the 14060 (the 2-liner or the 4-liner), but in this case I would steer clear of the watch in question and continue searching for one that has the correct dial for its respective production era. It's worth holding out for an all-original example (or at least for one that has been serviced with period-correct replacement parts). It's a totally fantastic reference, and endlessly satisfying to wear. My 4-liner from 2011 says hello.

Plenty of these available. Hold out for a better example.

Replaced dial? Move on.

There are tens of thousands of Subs out there ready to buy. Get one in good shape that hasn;t been messed with. Don;t make a newbie mistake that you will regret

Check, check and check again, there are lots of Submariners out there, make sure that you buy the right one not necessarily the first one you come across.

Yes, the AD should either have made the effort to find a correct replacement dial (i.e. a "2-liner") for the watch or should have left it alone! And why did the dial need replacing anyway? It would take a lot to damage a dial on a modern Sub! Sorry to be so negative here, and I don't know the AD in question, but this smacks of a fudged or lazy repair job to me. Warning bells would be ringing in my ears, and I'd walk away from this one. A 4-liner dial on a 2-liner Sub would be an absolutely no-go for me! It's just not right! Good luck in your hunt, a no-date Sub is the way to go!

Exact! I would choose another 14060 not this one
I don't trust a watch that has been replaced with a non-coeval dial
in any case Sub 14060 it's a great choice

Doesn’t sound like a particularly good deal, especially if it’s not an original dial. A dial gets replaced for a reason.

There’s lots of Subs of that vintage out there. If it’s a watch you want to keep, consider one that’s all original and complete with box and papers. Don’t rush into it, the hunt is half the pleasure of acquiring a piece like that!

I wouldn't go for that. No no. The dial is not period correct so that would drive me crazy.

Plenty of correct 2 liners and 4 liners out there so skip that one. Which dial do you prefer?

Also, I'll add that you are paying top retail for this watch, and for that, it should be perfect, correct, with all boxes and paperwork.
