The future of the concealed/hidden clasp

Hi all!

I’m new to the forum over here and looking to buy my first Rolex (likely a DJ 31mm as I have small wrists). Interested to see what people’s thoughts are on the possibility of Rolex discontinuing the concealed clasp in the 31mm DJ range, like they did on the 36mm and replacing it with the oyster easylink?

I don't have an answer but my guess is the 31 is seen as specifically a women's watch and the hidden clasp sort of lends itself to the elegance of the watch so they would be less likely to ditch it for the easylink clasp.

It would not surprise me. If they got rid of it for the 41mm DJ and 36mm DJ on Jubilee, seems common sense would indicate smaller DJs would follow.

Only potential reason why not to do so could be that the concealed clasp is a bit more of a softer, lighter and more elegant touch on the bracelet...especially for smaller wrists. I imagine many females may think the design of the smaller concealed clasp looks better and more polished.

Personally. I wish they would bring the concealed/hidden clasp back to the DJ 36mm and 41mm range on jubilee. One thing I don't like about the new larger DJs.

I don't think so.

Still, go ahead and get that 31mm while you're still thinking about it. It's an excellent model for ladies, my wife has two - one 'hidden' jubilee, other other oyster.

But the DD has kept its hidden clasp across the lineup, no?

The 31 mm OP has a typical clasp design found on larger watches. I wasn't aware that the DJ31 was still hidden clasp. That's a nice discriminator.

I think the likelihood of it being dropped is very low.
The 31 mm offerings are within the realms of a ladies watch and the outright elegance of the concealed clasp on a Jubilee bracelet is almost unparalleled.
It's virtually synonimous with femininity.
My wife has one on her DJ31 and says she wouldn't buy another Rolex without the concealed clasp as it's a non-negotiable feature.

I think they will likely keep it given the bulkiness of the other clasps compared to the hidden one. If they did replace it, so that the proportions do not look off, I would think they would need to redesign Easylink or develop an entirely new clasp.

Agreed.
But the DD is and always was regarded as a watch that could pass muster on the wrist of a President of the United States of America.
Hense the name given to the DD and the bracelet is called a President.
It's more high end

In contrast the Oyster bracelet and clasp is known for a divers watch or tool watch. Something that someone in command of a Submarine or in the military would wear.

Thanks all - have an appointment booked at an AD tomorrow. Think the 31mm will be the best fit but would have been nice to still have the option of going for the concealed clasp on the 36mm!
