Bought a Daytona when they were discounted below msrp. Too small for me and traded it back for a TT Sub.

My AD told me one of his client took the plunge and paid gray market price for a white dial SS daytona and he had buyer remorse later because he didn't feel the intrinsic value of the watch was worth its price tag. I kinda agree with the sentiment, because that amount of money can open up a ton of other possibilities at the high horology level or PM Rolex. If the Daytona was priced a couple of grand above retail, I would have no problem paying the premium to get it today but it is what it is with offer and demand I guess.

Place your name on a list at an local AD while finding a clean 116520 or better yet 16520.

Long time lurker first time poster.
Personally I wouldn't mind owning one at retail just to have one but I don't get the hype - much less the current pricing. Next to. GMT II the Daytona feels small and a bit of a cheap Swatch watch.

I love the dial but from a pure overall look and feel perspective the GMT is beating the Daytona by A MILE in my opinion

I have just checked the grey prices for the white ceramic Daytona Neef.

I guess I am stuck with my 116520.

Well this happens to be a perfect thread about the ever illusive Daytona 116500.

So as a experiment I thought I would gauge the market as a seller for my black dial 116500 dated in 2020, old card though and reach out to some Greys and a few of the big watch sites not on TRF such as Bobs watches, Crown and Caliber etc etc.

I might add I’m hoping to land a 116519 from my A D so I’d probably sell the 500 to get the 519 or maybe keep both. Who knows. Gotta land the 519 first.

So I had one Grey tell me he wasn’t interested. Market is to unsettled he said. No biggie. He’s on TRF I might add. Had another Grey also on TRF offer 25k, the lowest number I got which I expected. He’s known for having really high prices for what he sells.

Then Bobs offered in the 26’s and I’m still waiting on a few others. I guess what I’m trying to say here is yes the sale prices on a 500 via a Grey is insane but it’s also kinda insane to get offers in the mid to upper 20’s for a 13k watch. Obviously if I were to sell I’d consider doing it myself. Done it many times successfully here and elsewhere.

Long story short the Daytona market is nuts so what should you do? I have no freaking clue. So there’s my contribution to this thread

I can't understand why anybody would think otherwise. TT is not for me, but the way a full PM lays on your wrist is fantastic. I don't know if it is the added weight, temperature conductivity, whatever. It just feels so much better.

As far as when I have no idea but I left the conversation thinking damn I have to be considered to spend 32k (29700 plus tax). Like really???

But thats the world we live in. I remember seeing the 116515 on leather sitting in cases forever!!! Nobody bought that watch.

I have stopped playing that game with AD’s. I have had my Rolex’s always serviced there, bought watches, jewellery but still its the usual BS of being considered. So i have found great Grey to do business with, without BS.

I'm not sure what kinda AD game anyone wishes to play with Rolex cases mostly empty. Even if you can, i bet you're gonna have to spend probably close to $200k to be allocated. If u have the dough i say just go grey. The whole thing is beyond crazy anyway.

They’re just not triple retail exciting. Put your name down and get on with life.

I had mine at retail and in the end sold it simply because it didn’t really do much for me. Other than it was a “Daytona” I found it small, no date and not easy to read hence didn’t use it.
I have not missed it I must say. I use my PM GMT and Nautilus a ton though

I refuse to pay double/triple retail. So I would get on a list and wait indefinitely
