This is an extremely interesting thread OP. I would certainly escalate this and not accept anything other than the watch. I would post on this thread all the paper trail (black out your details) so that we members can help get this out there far and wide. Sothebys reputation is at risk here, but there needs to be a paper trail that we can all push to validate our narrative. I know I will help, and I am sure others will. This is a total travesty.

Yes, this is what is finally going to jeopardize, Sotheby's reputation.
A relatively miniscule transaction that was not completed. Not the half a Billion, with a B, fine they and Christie's had to pay for price fixing. Or just their everyday shady practice's. Bidding at an auction that has reserves and a buyers premium is a fool's errand.
It is akin to gambling at a casino that you know fixes it's games. You have to be able to outsmart the house, who is able to view the items in person and can research for a much l ok nger time than any buyer, and on top of that, every other bidder in the world. And then hope they let you claim your winnings. I only participate in auctions without reserves, and 99% of them with out buyer's premiums. At least then I only have to match wits with other bidders. |

Beware of the financial ramifications should you decide to proceed. I can only see one winner here.

I wish Watch Journalism would come to the rescue here.
I am sure some of the big sites started asking around to do an article, the watch would magically be delivered. |
