Influenza, What's all the fuss about?

Influenza, what is all this hype about?
Who cares.....?!!
YOU DO and this is WHY!

In annual influenza epidemics 5-15% of the population are affected with upper respiratory tract infections. Hospitalization and deaths mainly occur in high-risk groups (elderly, chronically ill). Although difficult to assess, these annual epidemics are thought to result in between three and five million cases of severe illness and between 250 000 and 500 000 deaths every year around the world. Most deaths currently associated with influenza in industrialized countries occur among the elderly over 65 years of age.

Now about the H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) and You, follow the link from the CDC

The "swine flu" actually causes a great deal lest risk to people then does the typical flu epidemic. Due to the fact that on average, there are about 5-10 different major strands of the flu going around, simply catching a "typical" flu bug provides only, at absolute best, a 20% chance that you won't get it again that season. Catching the swine flu provides ~99% chance that you will not catch it again. Given that, and the lack of recombination that has been observed of this virus, makes it of very little threat.
