We can shoot the you know what all day about the 5 vs 6 digit, the 11 vs the 12, the presence of a date complication or a lack of, and so forth. But, at the end of the day, the stainless Sub - whether it was made in 1971 or half a century later - is a watch you really can't go wrong with.

Yes exactly.

Sub is magnificent. If you like the new model or old model... doesn't really matter. Non-watch people couldn't probably even tell the difference.

I love 'em both. New version is the better watch but the old one comes with the beautiful lines.

Check out this testmonial that I wrote a while back:

That's why it's THE "quintessential Rolex".

It’s a great watch, and much prefer it to the 6-digit subs. But i don’t so much agree with the ‘subtle’ changes. It may have evolved subtly along the way, but the start and end point watches are very different.

When I think of watches that have truly remained largely unchanged, I think of the Royal Oak (an untrained eye would struggle to spot the difference on the wrist between a 5402 and a 15202).

The four and five digit subs are brilliant and iconic, but I personally think the design has changed far more than people often suggest. This doesn’t change my desperate want for a Milsub!

Indeed. 16600 is a beauty.

I have large wrists and 16610 wears a bit better (wider and flatter) so I wear it more. But I adore the SD.

Me as well, approaching 8 inches. My favorite daily is still the 116610. Gives some size to the Sub, but doesn't go full blown SD43. At that point I would try the DSSD. Btw if you haven't, trying on the new 126660 DSSDs is a must. Imo shockingly smaller feel than expected. Especially vs the 116660s.

Great watch. My wrist was much smaller back here years ago though looks especially so here before sizing due to wearing too tightly. This was right at the time the 6 digit Exp2 launched. Picked up for $4k....wish I would've bought both dials now. Times have changed.

I agree. I’m wearing my 2-liner 14060M as I type this.
Probably in the top 3 of the best all-around watch you can own.

I agree with the OP. My 2 line 14060M has been amazing for me over the last 8 years I’ve owned it. I just picked up a 124060 a few days ago though and I’m starting to grow very fond of it as well.
