Princess Snowflake of the House of Tudor

Thanks to great feedback on the vintage Rolex section of TRF, I’ve made a foray into true vintage watches and into Tudor, and bought a circa 1977 Tudor Princess Submariner. It arrived today. I know the Tudor “snowflake” Sub got its name from the shape of its hour hand, and the ladies’ model doesn’t have that, but it’s still the ladies’ sized equivalent of the snowflake Sub, i.e. different hands, square lume “dot” on the second hand, and square indices versus round. I got it in blue, as it’s my favorite color; these also come in black. Tudor of course also made the ladies Sub with the more traditional Sub dial and hands. I figured if I’m going vintage, I want to get something I hadn’t seen before.

I’m not good at posting photos, so I posted the link to the Chrono24 listing. It was a private party sale (so they aren’t dealer photos), and the bezel is a slightly and evenly faded blue. The patina on the lume is nice, as is the acrylic crystal. It has the older fold-over link Oyster, so even though it’s a Rolex bracelet, it’s lighter than my other SEL Oysters. The bracelet is also too big so I need to take it to the nearby Rolex AD to take out the extra links (because I don’t know how to remove the extra foldover links).

I greatly appreciate the feedback of TRF members here. It’s the oldest watch I’ve ever purchased, my first time using Chrono24 (I’ve bought watches from HQ Milton) and it was a private party sale. As we all know, buying a vintage watch sight unseen from a private party can be a potential hazard. I figured it’s at a decent enough price point (far, far away from the vintage market for Red Subs, Bakelite bezel GMTs, or Newman Daytonas) and that an older ladies’ Tudor is less likely to be faked or a Frankenwatch than a men’s Tudor snowflake Sub or a ladies’ Rolex Datejust, that it was worth the risk (plus I messaged the seller a lot and was satisfied).

The size is perfect for my wrist (actually a little larger than the 29mm Yachtmaster I’ve worn for 20 years).

I just hope my kids don’t start calling me Princess Snowflake.
