Looks great! True to the SD line. Just won’t be able to send it to RSC for service

I can’t unsee this now.

They did the same thing with the previous generation. I call it the "cyclops IOU"

The date window was placed in a position for a cyclops, but they never put one on. If no cyclops the date window should be a the far right edge

Rusty,

May I ask what crystal was used?

From memory simply removing the cyclops leaves the AR coating under the crystal where the cyclops was, although that could easily be removed with the crystal out.

Agree. Looks way better with the cyclops.

The cyclops on sd43 has been polarizing topic. Either u hate it or love it. Lol

Personally, on this reference, I don’t like the date placement on the dial without the cyclops.
(same for 116600)
And i don’t think Rolex did, too. Lol
I believe this is the real reason why Rolex added the cyclops on sd43. Lol

Glad u like it. That’s all that matters.

Love it man, I’ve toyed with doing the same to mine. I prefer it without as well.

I agree, i think the addition of the cyclops was a conscientious design decision based on the unbalanced aesthetics of the larger case without a corresponding scaled movement. The cyclops helps circumnavigate it.

I believe the position of the date is due to the size of the movement.

Exactly.

I have to say I've always been a bit confused why Rolex didn't make the movement a little bigger in the DSSD and SD4K to compensate for the non-cyclops date position. They've done it before - afterall the 3187 in the Exp II is just a slightly larger 3186 - 31mm vs 28.5mm

Looks great. I have a sd4k, and if I could (mod) a line of red text I would consider it. You have gone that way by removing the cyclops on the 43

I am surprised at how little this cost. Is the new crystal the same thickness? Has depth rating been compromised?
Same thickness...watch was preassure tested and 100%

Same as the old SD and the Deep Sea. None of the date windows sit at the edge of the dial.

An aftermarket crystal/gasket made to the same specs/dimensions/thickness. PM me if you want the source/link. LAWW removed the cyclops from the replacement crystal. I still have the original crystal/gasket so that it can be returned to original specs if needed or if I want a factory service. This seemed to be the best approach as I have read that it is not possible to get the cyclops off of the OEM crystal. Someone noted that it is fastened differently than in the past and that the crystal may have a receiving pit (lack of a better term) to strengthen the bond.

I think you are right about that. Retooling the movement to test the waters making a larger watch...expensive.

The ringlock helped a little bit with the Deep Sea. It has the same gap...as does the SK 4k. I don't mind it though. The cyclops distracts my brain/eye when looking at the dial. Prefer the clean look or a cyclops under the crystal ala Panerai or AP.

Looks great imo. Can’t say which version I like more, but I do like it!!

Which replacement crystal did they give you? Is it from another Rolex model? Custom made?

Thanks

The crown & crown guards balance the gap between the date window and edge of the dial out for me...
