Ill try to get the image of the engraving. I dont see a paper from IBM, but i have the service booklet, manual, warranty document, hang tags and box.

I ended up getting this for less than $2700... so im very happy with the purchase, and may see about having the back replaced by rolex.

Curious is this model 16220 from 1992 has the gold bezel or the stainless?

Also, i decided to give it to my father.

It's a Rolex and it's been defaced imho. I'd steer away from any watch with specialized aftermarket engraving whether IBM or personal.

Why? It's only an engraving on the caseback. A steel case back can be replaced for very cheap. If the price is right there is no reason to not buy.

I got great deal on it, and will be giving it to my father. ill probably send it in to Rolex for service, and have the case back replaced with a new genuine part.

Just keep it? Who cares what it says, it's on your wrist so you won't notice. Or simply polish it out but I wouldn't, it's a story to a watch.

It is not a Rolex that has been defaced with an aftermarket engraving.

The IBM Award Rolex watches were ordered directly from Rolex by IBM. Rolex did the engraving on the case back. The watch and engraving are 100% Rolex. They left Rolex with the name of the person, year and IBM award logo on it. No aftermarket work at all.

Same with the Domino's watches. They were all made by Rolex to Domino's order. Early ones had a Domino's logo on the dial and engraved on the case back. The current ones have a 14k white gold logo on the bracelet and engraving on the case back.Rolex made everything (including the logo on the bracelet). The warranty card that comes with the watch shows the name of the local Rolex store in the same area as Domino's corporate office.

Rolex does have a awards division (and those corporate customers are not only getting a lot of Rolexes at a time but getting them quicker then most folks wanting to buy a Rolex at an AD)

I actually hope a lot of folks continue to avoid Rolex with corporate logos as it allows people that want a Rolex and don't want to do the AD dance to get a current model Rolex for a very low price. i paid not really that much to get my Dominos Pizza Rolex OP 116000 and all it will take to convert it to a non logo Rolex is a little bit more on top of the price of a normal service and I still come out lower then if i had bought a new OP or a used OP without the logo.

Now the issue is to buy the new back that i know is 100% the right one. Ive been looking and there seems to be a few part numbers that match up. is there somewhere that i can look to make sure i get the correct one? or even someone here that can give me a definitive answer?

Got the watch back from service, and it looks great. replaced the caseback with another one without the engraving. My father is going to be very happy with his Xmas gift this year!

I attached a picture of the engraved back, as a few have asked to see it

My IBM Rolex

My father got his in 1990. He hardly wore it and handed it down to me. I wear it every day and will hand it down to my son.
