What are the chances of recovering a stolen watch

One of my watches (stainless sub) was stolen last year with box and papers. I reported it to RSC, but what are the chances someone will send it in? It has been one year and I have not heard from them.

Don’t know what the chances of recovery are but I’m curious how the watch, along with box and papers, was stolen?

It was in the box when it was stolen from my house.

Hi sorry to hear it was nicked. Did you see that member who recovered his platona. He might be able to help where to start to find it.

Yes, that is what got me thinking. Just wondering what % of watches eventually make it to RSC?

I tend to think that this was the exception, though. Besides his tireless diligence, law enforcement took greater interest in his case than most stolen watch cases, since it was about clearing eight burglaries (and a home invasion), committed by a known repeat offender, in one fell swoop. Outside of a major metro area, that’s a pretty good ROI in terms of clearance for a detective and an ADA.

Very low. Had one stolen many years ago. Reported, put in data bases, etc, etc. No sign of the watch.

But don't people send their watch in for service every 5-10 years?

I think if it was stolen with papers the chances are higher, as whoever ends up buying will be more comfortable sending it to RSC.

The odds are low, but who knows. Best of luck my friend!!

Just being real. It's low. Very low. But I feel you. Many years ago i had my Yamaha R6 stolen and I thought of all the ways I would kick the ass of whoever did it. And then actually got recovered 6 months later abandoned in a nearby city. By then I didn't want it anymore since it's probably been abused and insurance paid it all off. I hope you had insurance or your home owner policy covers it. It may show up years down the line, who knows, but it is what it is as they say.

I would make sure the serial number and model is put out on all the watch forums. Hopefully a pawn shop or potential customer will do a google search before buying and let the authorities know.

Another one here although at this point I don't even care anymore. It will just be a pleasant surprise if my Sub LV (stolen in Jan 2017) ever shows up. I remember I bought a new LV 2 days after mine was stolen.

While there is always some chance, I personally don't think it's a superb chance. I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

Sorry to hear that.

My guess is that the chances are low. The TRF member who was burglarized recovered his Platona, so it seems, because he was very proactive in its recovery. Plus, my guess is that because this watch is so expensive and relatively rare, that helped. I would think that a “no box no papers” Platona raises some eyebrows (which, obviously, it did). He still doesn’t have his wife’s DJ. Given that thieves were caught and convicted, I’m surprised they didn’t give up information about where the watches went.

In the early 1980s in Los Angeles, my father in law’s house was burglarized, and among the things that were stolen were my FIL’s PP and VC. The PP was a somewhat sentimental loss, as it was his first “expensive” watch that he purchased in Europe in the early 1960s. He of course reported it to the police but…nothing. It’s been almost 40 years. Fortunately my MIL was actually wearing her Rolex, so that was spared (and I have it now).

Curious: a few years ago there was a high profile robbery of the Geary’s Rolex boutique in Los Angeles (Century City). Those watches stolen of course were all brand-new. I was wondering if anyone here knows if any were ever recovered.

I am sorry for your lost but I do hope you manage to get it back. (provided the person tries to sell to grey market and the grey market cares to check on missing rolex before taking in)
