Dormant Watch Question

I have a Ulysse Nardin 1846 Marine Chronometer I want to trade in on a Sub Date. It was purchased in 2007 but worn only a few times and has been in a drawer since. Must it be serviced/lubricated before being wound? Would winding it without it being examined by a watchmaker damage the watch?

I can’t speak to that brand, but I had a few when I moved to FL sit for a few years as I did not take the whole collection. Never had any problems winding after a long time sitting. That said, some brands (my iwc and chopard) needed service as they were not keeping accurate time and others (breitling and omega) were spot on without a service.

i wouldn't service it, especially if you're going to be trading it in. the $ you pay for service won't be recouped when you trade it in. And depending on the material of your UN, you might only get $2-$3k on trade value and your service could be as much as $1k
