Retail Price of Platinum Day Date

Hi All,

Rolex frustratingly does not post retail prices for the platinum day date. I'm trying to coax Mrs. jvd99 into getting me one for my 50th next year and need to prep her for the damage. I want to buy from an AD, not grey. Specifically, I'm looking for retail price of the platinum day date with ice blue dial and deconstructed white gold romans. It's a new dial combo for 2021, but not a watch new release per se, and I can't find any specific info anywhere.

Thanks!

70 years is the platinum anniversary, you are cutting it kind of close to get it at MSRP.

The white gold deconstructed romans is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Not sure anything else Rolex could do with the dial that would dissuade me from the purchase or regretting it later - except perhaps a fluted platinum bezel - but I'm certainly not postponing my 50th b-day on that kind of speculation.

Spectacular watch and just gorgeous. I also turn 50 next year and I am going with the sub for that milestone, but the platinum DD with ice blue dial would be great for my 60th! I hope you get yours! Definitely post pics of it!

I love the deconstructed romans, but could never get past the quadrant dial with the blue romans. I'm all in on the white gold version!

If anyone has a new ice blue/white gold romans version, please post some pics!

Now that I am looking, was there ever a fluted bezel platinum day date? The only other one I can find is diamond and I’m not a fan.

When you say “white gold” you are referring to the hour markers, not the watch itself, right? Because I think I’ve blue dial is platinum-only on all models.

I also don’t think that any platinum DD has ever come with a fluted bezel. Rumor has it that platinum is too difficult to work with to construct one but never seen actual confirmation.

This is correct.

Also, 1) the ice blue dials are only available on platinum watches; and 2) the DD40 platinum only comes with the smooth bezel.

I was concerned that I would not like the smooth bezel at first, but it has really grown on me. Along with the ice blue dial, it really helps the set the watch apart.

The discussion of fluted bezels on PT DDs has been pretty well-hashed; it’s stylistic, not a function of difficulty. My Jackie Stewart 118206 has a “fluted” crown and caseback no less intricate than those of my YG DD. It’s a similar discussion to that of why the ice blue/glacier dials were reserved for PT models. Would the GLAWAP dial of my 118206 also fit my 3155-equipped DD36 in YG? (Or, for that a matter a 118209?) Absolutely. It’s was simply a stylistic choice by Rolex to distinguish between them visually. The analogy I shared when this last came up (for any fellow car nerds) was a car; when I’m sitting in traffic on PCH and see the roof of a coupe nearby in “Laguna Seca Blue,” a unique color, I know that the rest of that car will surely be an E36 BMW M3. That’s BMW’s way of distinguishing their more exclusive models as, well, exclusive. The same applies to these dials or bezels on a Rolex, with the possible exception of the following (specific to DDs).

A number of us here were part of a discussion last year with a frequent commenter regarding his desire for a PT DD. When he refused to accept their known price point at the time, he vented his frustrations with us. When he PMed me about this in reference to my 118206, I suggested he look at a 118209 w a smooth bezel and a non-WG-specific dial to stay within his targeted price range. Seeing now what has happened with their pricing, I sure hope he bought something back when we were all giving him that advice.

But here’s what still puzzles me: the 36 used to have the option of a smooth bezel on all metal varieties. So not really exclusive, or at least wasn’t…

Yep, same with offering the YG and WG DD36s on the Oyster bracelet. Looks like they cut out a few of these items to further distinguish the different metals.

Yes, referring to the indices. I was speculating about some surprise for the Platinum 70th - a fluted bezel would be unreal, even though improbable

Nice piece don't think it comes with the fluted bezel but I could be wrong.
