Curious as to the consensus
I never really entertained the idea of buying a Patek or Lange, but the 136.029 that David has for sale seems to be a good price. I could sell my 116500 (retail at AD) and put a little cash with it or sell the 116500 and my 16622 YM and have it pretty much covered. The only other Rolex I have is a BLNR.
I know Lange doesn’t hold value great, but it is at the top of the heap horologie wise. What do you think? It would be a great opportunity for me to get a watch that retails for $56,100 and only have roughly 20k in it. I will always have a plan to add the Daytona back when/if I can get one at retail. |

I would take any Lange over any Daytona any day..
In fact, I would prefer most watches to a Daytona. I would sell the Daytona and keep the YM myself...

Disclaimer, I am not a big Lange fan. I respect the brand, but it just doesn't do it for me. I would MUCH rather keep the Daytona. Again, I am totally biased though.
If you really wanted to move in this direction, I would go Journe or PP over a Lange. |

I'd definitely do it.
The move from mid tier mass produced Rolex to top tier high horology is massive and if you're really in to watch making you'll never regret! I have recently done a similar thing and traded up for ALS and now Breguet, these watches feel truly special in a way that none of my Rolex watches ever did, Rolex seems to be just about value retention! |

Definitely get the Lange if you like it! These are very special watches. I would have no problem trading in the Daytona to get it with a little cash on top. I’d keep the 16622 though

I can't tell what time it is on the Lange. But then, I can't read the time on a Daytona either.
The watch is too busy for my simple mind, but if it's what you want, go for it!

I had a Patek and traded back to a Daytona. The Patek did not feel any more special to me than my Daytona. Granted, the packaging did. I liked the Patek, but I liked the Daytona more. According to your post, that must mean that I am not really into watchmaking. It looks more like you are talking yourself into that you made the right decision, the way you need to highligt how Rolex is mid-tier and mass produced, and people that are *really* into watchmaking (read: like you) will not regret it moving on. OP: Do you like the watch or do you like the pricing of the watch? If you like the watch more than the Daytona, then I think you should go for it. If it is just the pricing, then you might get bored with the ALS. However ALS makes beautiful watches. Rolex are not in the same class horology wise but the 4130 movement is actually pretty good from that point of view if that is what floats your boat. |

Very interesting. Thanks for the feedback. It was quite different than I was expecting. And I thought I had this forum figured out, lol.
