I don't know if that's all there is to it, JJ. One other thing to consider is the movement of the second hand.

Even before quartz movements came about, Rolex already tried a "dead beat" (one beat per second) movement in 1954's Tru-Beat, and it was not popular with the Rolex buying crowd. I think the fact that cheap, deadbeat quartz movements (pun intended) behave in the same way was the final nail in the coffin.

Your Rolex dealer in Rotterdam is then one helluva guy. I've never heard of any Rolex dealer giving such a generous offer.

Very true....if something goes seriously wrong with that quartz movment, then you are well and truly screwed. A mechanical watch is easier to fix with readily available parts. With the OQ, you might find yourself in very deep sh!t if something does go wrong with the circuitry.

Rolex guarantees a parts supply for discontinued watches for a staggering 30 years after they are discontinued. Several folks have convinced me the OQ was discontinued in 2003, so I'll be around 62 when they finally refuse to work on my OQ, if I still even have it by then.

Thanks, Micah, I didn't know about this parts guarantee on the OQ was over such a long period of time.
