Explorer II (ref. 16570) SWISS only with a K-serial #?
I picked up an Explorer II (ref. 16570) earlier this year; SWISS only dial, with a K-serial number.
I'm curious if the SWISS only dial is original to my watch, or was a service replacement later on. Some of the Rolex serial number websites list K serial #'s as 2000, others list them as 2001. Seems like the majority of the SWISS only dials I've seen on eBay, forums, google image search are primarily on 1999-2000 watches, primarily with A serial #'s on the papers/case. Anyone else on here with an Explorer II, K-serial, with a SWISS only dial? |

Swiss-only dial on a K serial is almost certainly a service dial. The move from Swiss to Swiss Made came around the late A serials (around A7 or A8), and then P came between A and K, so it's really unlikely that a K would have Swiss only.

But looking at it surely if a service dial it would be Swiss Made and not just Swiss, as K serials ran from around September 2001 to around August 2002.

My 16570 and 16600 Swiss only watches are A serial numbers.

With Rolex it is a never-say-never thing.
A K serial would be considered after the 98/99 "Swiss" introductions, but you have to ask, did Rolex suddenly toss all of these dials when they began using the "Swiss Made" Lume dials? The answer is "maybe not". Rolex has been known to use parts as they have them, and not toss anything.
