Bracelet Noise

Hey guys! There's sound kind of squeaky noise that comes from my new GMT-Master IIc when I shake my wrist. It's two of my links rubbing against each other or the bar in between them, I think it's the end link and the one after it at the 12 o'clock mark.

It sounds like it needs some WD-40 or something Has anyone experienced this? What am I supposed to do?

It's probably the clasp, not the links that are makiing the noise.

I'm sure it's those two links because I held all the links and clasp steady and moved only those two links, that's where the noise is coming from.

I have had 3 GMT's and it seems to be a regular issue. Every one of mine had the same issue. Suppose you just get used to it!!

Weird, maybe it's due for a cleaning. Try a toothbrush with some soap and water and clean the barcelet. The WD-40 might get a little messy!

That's not very nice! I was excited about having less noise than my 16610 due to the solid center links, but I guess it's a trade-off. I must say, I prefer to the rattling to the squeakiness.

It can't possibly be due for a cleaning. It's brand new, I pulled it out of the box a week ago! The squeaking is one of the first things I noticed after I put it on.

I'm guessing it might go away with time when all the gunk builds up on the screws between the links

I have heard WD40 is a very good fix for it. There was a thread about this noise before, and I remember quite a few people telling the person to use WD40.

My Milgauss also had a squeaky link when it was new. Sounded like a dry hinge on a gate. It quieted down after about two months.

I wash it with soap and water daily, for what that's worth.

Well, there's no doubt the squeaking would go away. Something tells me though that I shouldn't be spraying WD-40 on my Rolex plus it's going to get smelly.

WD-40 is great cleaner and a decent rust preventative but a lousy long-term lubricant. Plus, you don't want light, brown oil seeping out of your bracelet onto your skin or clothes.

My GMT IIC did the same thing at exactly the same point at the 12 O'clock position. It did it for a month or so then it started to get quieter. Now two months on it doesn't do it at all.

My DSSD did the same thing for about a month and I eventually got used to it. Now, however, the squeak is completely gone and I only realized it a few days ago! With time, I assume yours too shall pass.

Update: I just washed the watch with soap and water (I had only washed it with just water since I got it) and the squeaking is gone!

However, thanks for confirming guys! It's good to know that it's not just mine and that it DOES go away eventually

Ah, it feels great to be able to shake my wrist and not hear the squeaking... not even the rattling that my Sub makes!

Its the tight fit of the metal in the new bracelet.

Wear it for a while and the noise will go. Or you will get used to it and stop hearing it.

That makes sense! Though the good thing about the solid center links is that they won't stretch as much as the hollow ones.
