Clean Coal??....Cleaning Coal?
I remember back in the day I had an aquarium and in the filter I believe we put in angel hair and little pieces of charcoal to filter the water.
I have no idea what they use now. This is an interesting article/test for using coal for desalination plants, which may soon be a thing for drought areas close to the ocean. (like California) https://newatlas.com/good-thinking/c...2ebbc-93122952

As an ex chimney sweep, I have been around enough coal, ash, soot and dust. Sold up and retired in April, and don't miss it one bit.

I remember grandma used a chalk ball to remove stains from clothes. Pre-dry-cleaning days.
In my day, I've seen c.1900 gas lines with giant drip legs where the pipe entered the building. The drip leg, a pipe maybe 1.5" x 18", would be full of coal dust. Back in the days of coal gas. A boot black used to use coal dust and linseed oil on your boots. I had an apartment lease once which clearly stated, "No Bootblacking in or on the halls, stairs, or landings". Nor could one store firewood in the common areas. |

Clean Coal??....Cleaning Coal?
A fledgling desalination science project - but could yield real world results in a couple of decades.
Recycled wastewater is a cheaper project without the costs of pumping the oceans. One day, both technologies will be needed methinks. Food for thought: recycled wastewater is California’s current direction…also, big Chem outfits like Dow are heading down a different filtration path for desalination. https://ideas.ted.com/would-you-drin...-find-out/amp/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Some interesting reading. I’m always curious about sources of information. Can you expand on “Ted” and how the information published is vetted? Thank you |

TedTalks aren’t especially well vetted. They are a platform for live and virtual explorations.
That article was from a book “The Fate of Food: What We’ll Eat in a Bigger, Hotter, Smarter World” by Amanda Little. She presented in Nashville: So it’s usually up to the viewer/reader to choose their own follow-up research. Remember Elizabeth Holmes pitched Theranos in a TedTalk…many didn’t take that with a grain of salt… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Same question to you as above “Gizmag pty.” not much in the DNB than 10 employees and rev under $1.5 million. There’s so much information to disseminate these days. I’m not saying they aren’t newsworthy sources, but I’m genuinely interested in where the information comes from and how it’s vetted. https://www.dnb.com/business-directo...a71257900.html |

But I'm not as concerned with the "invention of the day" as I am with the simple fact that people/companies are seeming to be attacking climate issues, and other problems from a myriad of angles and ideas. Obviously not everything works but by trying different things, even some that don't work, we happen upon some things that do. Don't forget the space program brought about dozens of inventions that had nothing really to do with getting into space. But were bi-products of the various disciplines that were trying new ideas and things. And I also believe the fossil fuel industry stifled a lot of the research that is now ongoing. We were stuck in a fossil fuel mindset of how to reach technological advances. Necessity IS the mother of invention.
