There are three ways to deal with this:
1. Polish it. This is the cheapest option but is not recommended for widespread or heavy damage because it will smooth the sharp ridges and valleys that are designed to play with light and create the sparkle effect. I have successfully spot-treated some scratches and scuffs by carefully and selectively hand polishing the slopes of the flutes without touching the peaks and valleys, thereby retaining the appearance.
2. Re-cut the bezel. This involves shaving metal off the bezel to remove the surface layer containing the dings and scratches while retaining the sharp relief. There are some independents that do this, but I've not heard of Rolex doing it. If anyone knows differently, please chime in. I don't think this can be done selectively to areas of damage only.
3. Replace the bezel. Rolex will charge a premium for this, of course.

Hypothetical question. I just acquired a smooth bezel DJ 41 fearing/knowing I would damage a fluted bezel although I consider the fluted a lot more attractive.

I believe I read somewhere on here it’s ~$2000 to replace the fluted bezel. I have a couple dings on mine but you only really notice them at certain angles and lighting, the flutes hide it well. Also, no one else is going to notice it but yourself, especially at the distance most people see your watch.
