The question is moot. Nobody moves to the west coast.

I have a 8 watch and a 16 watch hard cases that I use frequently when flying. I have taken 14 with me before and it isnt a big deal. I don’t have pre check, but for me the box goes in a bin, then thru xray, then back in my hand. Never openned and nobody is the wiser as to what’s in them.

Unless you have a massive collection that can’t be moved in a handheld case you will have to look into secure transport. I know FedEx and DHL offer such services.

Use FexEx or DSL. The ship art all the time often valued a several hundred thousand dollars. Just have your own insurance.

Send your watch cases under heavy guard in a Brinks truck. Carry your watches in your backpack and take across the country in an Amtrak.

Got the idea from Ocean's Twelve. Just make sure Linus is not seated behind you.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

I’ve decided on the option of doing an additional separate fly out trip, as to transport the watches. Extra hassle and money, but they will never leave my sight. And I can transport from box to box same day.

How are you going to pack the watches?

I think it is important to use a "shell game" approach that you can monitor from the air, much like when Edward Norton was moving his gold bars in the movie "The Italian Job".

I feel the idea of getting a safe deposit box where you are moving from, then flying back after the road trip to retrieve them seems best here. Just be sure they’re insured before putting them in the safe deposit box at the bank.

Good luck with the move!

Watches and papers should always be with you. Boxes can be sent by mail.

Liquidate the collection at the height of the market and take the cash.
