Hodinkee Insurance

Does anyone have any experience with their insurance arm of the business?

Reliable? Comparable to other watch insurers?

I haven’t had to file a claim so I can’t speak to that process, but their service representatives are much more knowledgeable than Jewelers Mutual and the process for adding and removing watches from your policy is also way easier than Jewelers Mutual. I’ll be moving my collection over to them.

There’s a new thread every week on Hodinkee insurance.

The search feature is your friend. See below for fellow member’s claim experience.

I have Hodinkee and used JM in the past. Rates are similar for me but my overall user experience edges toward Hodinkee in terms of ease of adding / changing details of my policy online.

Thankfully never had to file a claim so can't speak to that portion of the service but recently read of a favorable experience from a TRF vet about filing a recent claim.

I got a quote from Hodinkee. In my area they are triple the cost of JM. I’m about 2 hours outside NYC.

I have a place in North Carolina, If I use that address for the quote it’s 1/3 the cost.

Not sure why such a high premium in my area in NY State

It varies depending on where you live in the USA. I pay about 1.25% on the dollar but its worth it to me. Statefarm is about .8 for me but its nightmare having to appraise everything and adjust for market value etc. With Hodinkee I can use the app and do it on the fly for the market value.

A question for those who use Hodinkee... Are you allowed to just arbitrarily decide the "market value" for a watch that you insure through Hodinkee? For example, say you pay just under $11,000 (including tax) at an AD for your Rolex. Can you insure it through Hodinkee for, say, $20,000 or $25,000? (Realizing that the premium will be higher on a higher-valued watch.) Or do they want you to hold the value closer to $11,000?

You can insure it for any figure you want, but premiums will apply accordingly. Hodinkee/Chubb wouldn’t be as big of a hit as it is if you were restricted to near MSRP coverage.
