Yacht Racing
I am crewing a boat next weekend and debating whether to wear my Sea-Dweller, something else, or nothing.
Hit me with some reasons why or why not. |

What does the boat owner or captain say. I crewed on a racing yacht years ago in the SF Bay area and the captain/boat owner didn't want a metal watch taking chips out of his fiberglass...
. . . ...but he also made us all go to the bathroom before we left the dock so we would be lighter. |

Like Hooliganhooker said, it may depend on boat captain, and how serious an event this is. I'm on the UVA sailing team, and I usually wear my subby when I go sailing. The Sea-Dweller was meant to at least see the sea!

Unless you are an official timer on board, wear no watch or any jewelery.
Jewelry on a racing yacht is asking for trouble, that includes ear rings, nose rings and wedding rings! |

I'd wear the SD only if thought the boat was going to sink otherwise wear a cheapie. Wearing a watch on a yacht is a tough gig IMO.
I raced a flying 15 years ago and a watch would have had a hard time. If the boat you are talking about is over 12 metres long ignore this post.

I'm of the opinion that it will only be in the way. A racer does not have the clear walkways of a cruiser, so anything attached to your body is fair game for getting snagged.
If I go with them on the bermuda race next year I will take it, but not on a weekend race. |
