Yacht Racing

I am crewing a boat next weekend and debating whether to wear my Sea-Dweller, something else, or nothing.

Hit me with some reasons why or why not.

What does the boat owner or captain say. I crewed on a racing yacht years ago in the SF Bay area and the captain/boat owner didn't want a metal watch taking chips out of his fiberglass...

...but he also made us all go to the bathroom before we left the dock so we would be lighter.

Like Hooliganhooker said, it may depend on boat captain, and how serious an event this is. I'm on the UVA sailing team, and I usually wear my subby when I go sailing. The Sea-Dweller was meant to at least see the sea!

Unless you are an official timer on board, wear no watch or any jewelery.
Jewelry on a racing yacht is asking for trouble, that includes ear rings, nose rings and wedding rings!

I'd wear the SD only if thought the boat was going to sink otherwise wear a cheapie. Wearing a watch on a yacht is a tough gig IMO.
I raced a flying 15 years ago and a watch would have had a hard time.
If the boat you are talking about is over 12 metres long ignore this post.

I'm of the opinion that it will only be in the way. A racer does not have the clear walkways of a cruiser, so anything attached to your body is fair game for getting snagged.

If I go with them on the bermuda race next year I will take it, but not on a weekend race.

If you are going to Bermuda, send the watch to one of us.

Or the triangle will get it.
