Incoming - Expanding horizon beyond Rolex

In the past 12 years I’ve only focussed on Rolex.

My collection is skewed to Dual-time/GMT watches as it’s the function I use most.

However, i’ve reached a point where my Rolex collection is almost complete, I’m just waiting to add a Platinum DD and a full YG SkyD:

So I started to look outside Rolex with my Hublot Big Bang e last year

Now I’m looking at GMT watches of other brands and am particularly excited about the more ‘obscure’ brands like Cuervo y Sobrinos, Yema, Vostok, Alpina etc.

Incoming: Yesterday I received my Vostok Komandirskie GMT with a Russian movement. Surprisingly good value for money.

It’s nice, these watches have their own interesting history and are a bit more ‘below the radar’ so don’t attract unwanted attention unlike Rolex with the crazy market prices.

I’ve also ordered these:

Alpina Alpiner 4 GMT Ice Legacy

Yema Superman GMT Coke:

Looking at Wempe, Squale, Cuervo Y Sobrinos, Eterna, Stowa, Laco, Dodane, Sinn next.

Suggestions of other brands welcome!

Amazing collection. It’s nice that you enjoy the top end of the hobby as well as the lower end. I can’t tell you how often I’ll swap out my omega to wear my Vostok! Enjoy them all in good health.

At the lower end I'd consider frederique constant, with in-house Swiss movement. I recently purchased their new Highlife world time as my 1st foray into more affordable pieces. Versatile piece with quick change to leather, rubber or steel bracelet straps

Great collection! Also love the GMT complication

Hade you considered Hamiltons jazzmaster gmt and traveller 2 gmt? Never tried them myself but have to say I’m intrigued

Also Norqain looks very interesting. No personal experience of that one either but looks good in pictures

The Norqain looks interesting indeed. It has a 24 hr ring inside as well as a 24hr rotatable bezel, so you can see 3 timezones at once:

Great thread, I too am looking outside of Rolex and have ordered a Stowa Flieger while working on obtaining a GO SeaQ Panorama to go with my Sub (which I will always keep). I also think the Tornek Rayville TR 660 looks like a very cool piece for the $1k range.

A JLC polaris would fit beautifully with your collection

Here is a tip my wife gave me. Don’t buy all your watches at once. Buy them over time. Fashions, style and sizes change. You don’t want all your watches to look alike and be dated.

While I wait for the AD call for a TT GMT Master, this Yema Superman Bronze GMT is my favorite current GMT watch.

I also have a Frederique Constant GMT, but I don't really like that one very much for a couple reasons. First, the GMT hand isn't distinguished well enough from the other hands, so it's confusing to read the dial. Second, the date flips when the GMT hand hits midnight rather than based on the regular hour hand. Since I'm one of those weird people who prefers to keep the GMT hand on actual GMT, it means that the date is wrong after 7PM.

Found another one I haven't noticed before that might be worth a look for OP. GMT watches without date can't be too common?

My Alpina Alpiner 4 GMT Business Timer has arrived!

What a gorgeous watch in real life.

With the white sunburst dial, the black aluminium compass bezel and the Red Blue ‘Business Timer’

The Business timer feature is really smart, surprised no other brands have adopted it yet. It shows the GMT hand whether it’s ‘business hours’, night or commute hours in the set time zone. I live in Southeast Asia but my company is based in the USA so this is a great useful feature for me to quickly see if it’s office hours over there.

The compass is another interesting feature, not sure if i’ll ever use it though, but it’s really smart yet simple.

I’ll get a metal bracelet as well but the leather it came on is really solid:
