Neither are most of the people on this forum! Vintageland is a minefield these days. The crooks are cloning everything. No matter how much you think you know there’s always something you don’t know so you need to have the experts on the Vintage forum vette any piece before buying unless of course you’re one of the experts.

This is what saddens me, the chicanery in vintage and seeing brand new watches fully stickered in grey dealer cases when all we can do is now try on exhibition pieces that you can’t have or order.

OP get your frustration but you need to block all this out. More important things in life and other watch brands. Things are not normal in fact I would say we’re 10 standard deviations away from normal when 39K Nautilus are selling for 500K. But on the bright side everything reverts back to the mean at some point. It’s now a game of patience.

Valid reaction OP, it wasn’t mine but totally get your choice. Unfortunately Rolex and the market won’t care…

This is attributing a money motivation to the original poster's disillusionment. Exactly, what the original poster is fed up with in the Rolex world. Trying to buy a Rolex is a miserable experience at the moment. The only people enjoying the present situation are the spivs, flippers and 'investment piece' people.

We are living through interesting times, to paraphrase the old Chinese insult. But it won't be like this forever. The sooner normality returns the better.

To the negative commentators, I never said I did not have the money to buy Rolexes now, or that I could not pay the ridiculous prices, and you don't know what stage I traded or sold my watches at, I said that I choose not to pay the ridiculous prices, and that the pricing has ruined the hobby for me. Seems I am not alone, and for the one who talks about a pity party or the ones addressing drinking, sorry, what a ridiculous thing to say. And it appears that there are a lot of people who are fed up with it all. You aren't, so good for you.

I am focusing on family, not your stupid prices or market value. The new cool kids, whoever you are, have ruined watch collecting for me, not just me, but, I will only speak for myself. It used to be fun. No longer. For me at least.

Gray dealers, market prices, etc. I am out. I am sure I will get the usual d bags waving bye bye but I was all in. Loved Rolex. But now to buy, trade, its foolish, I have had many over the years. Loved the brand. No longer. I am sure no one cares but I feel better saying it.

Been a collector since 1999. FYI.
It's just a watch. No need to meltdown over it.

I can sympathize Greg. Life is larger than Rolex and many other hobbies can offer the same or more fun. Come back to Rolex later and take a break

It’s sounds like you are “over” watch forums and flexing on social media surrounding watches … so, just stop that aspect of watch collecting. Why stop your love for Rolex, watch collecting, and interacting with friends who share your same interest?

I never understood the need to become emotional simply to make a simple and relatively inconsequential decision.

If I think a price is too high I just don't buy it.

There are other brands, so enjoy those, or buy an Apple Watch and be done with it all. Either way, not worth the stress.

Your original rant was unhinged dude..

Glad it's not drinking related..

Maybe a drink and relaxing wouldn't be a bad idea?

Lots of people piling on the OP, when it may be a bit of a overreaction post but let’s be real, nothing about this market is enjoyable. We have to put time & energy into making money to afford a watch. Now we have to put time & emotional energy into acquiring the watch. The chase has become more of the focus than being able to enjoy purchasing & enjoying the watch. Our club has become crowded with people not in it for the love of horology, but to make money.

Don't get me wrong, I am in that dying breed too. I wish I could still walk in the AD, pick out a Rolex I like, haggle some discount, and walk out with the new watch.

The problem is those days will be extremely unlikely to come back. Instead we will just need to put in more efforts and have more patience in order to get the watch we want. it's still doable to get them from the AD, it will just take more time and effort with a higher degree of uncertainties.

Think of it this way. We are no longer "entitled" to buy our Rolex, we have to earn our place to buy them. Looking on the bright side, a watch that takes so much effort to buy will mean a whole lot more to us than it would otherwise. That's not necessarily a bad thing for a watch enthusiast.
The event you are celebrating with the watch purchase has meaning, such as a promotion or retirement. The effort to get, not so much.
