Love all the stories . . .
And sorry for those of you who didn't have a compliment to share. However, I am certain most of you wear the watches for what you know they are, not the validation of others. However, kind words did put a big smile on my face. |

Just today I was standing in line at my bank, and while at the counter making my deposit, a guy came up next to me and said "Hey, is that an Omega Seamaster?" And I was like "sure is". I showed him my watch, and turns out, he had the exact same one as I did on as well. Next thing you know, we were both talking watches (Omega, and Rolex), and the bank clerks started to get impatient lol.
Today was the first and only time someone (besides my job, or family) has noticed my watch. It was a very cool experience. |

nope.
In my country, strangers will stare at your wrist to see what you are wearing but keep to themselves rather than complement a total stranger. Not because that they are rude, but its just in the culture. Mum always told me "Never talk to strangers". |

I've had a few comments on my Seiko Orange Monster, but not the Rolex yet. I think I actually try to hide the Rolex more, not sure I want people to see it.
I've also gotten one comment on my Omega Speedy Pro, but I was just staring at the dial for along time; someone just caught me doing that and said "nice watch".

Have only ever received one compliment. It was from a female patient who stated "Wow, nice watch!" I was wearing a TAG Carrera at the time.
Caught me totally off guard... |

Yes I do! It was nearly 10 years ago.
I was out to dinner w/my wife when an elder gentleman approached me & complimented me on my Sub. Then he stated that he had several in his collection. I returned the favor by comlimenting him on his Paul Newman Daytona. It was the 1st time I ever saw one up close. |

Well, in Norway people is very envious so people don't usually give compliments for things like Rolexes unless they have something similar themselves.
This is what I have experienced so far: 1.) When I was planning on buying my first Rolex a coworker was catching me studying the Rolex home page: He: "Are you getting a new watch?" Me: "Yes, I plan on buying a Rolex actually". He: "Rolex? Why? Everyone has one! I would get something else, cheaper and more special". (No one else in the company have a Rolex...) 2.) By the time I got my SS GMT IIc the rumor was spreading in the company that I got a Rolex. Typical conversation a coworker would bring up: "Hear you got a new watch." Me: "Yes I do. It's a GMT Master IIc." Coworker: "How much was it?" I tell him. He: "I would never use that kind of money on a watch!" Me starting: "Well, I'm really into watches, and I'm sure you use at least that kind of money on a fortnight when on vacation with your family? My Rolex will last a lot longer than that. It's actually very special it's ..." Coworker interupting: "Does it keep time right? Me: "Well, it's a mecanical watch but it keeps time quite well." He: "I got a casio and it's always dead on!" 3.) Speaking with my mother the day after getting the watch I tell her that I got a new watch: "It's actually a Rolex. It got two time-zones and ..." She interupting: "Yes, people use money on many strange things." Then she change the subject. (I almost hang up on her.) 4.) Only positive coment so far: My boss had just bought a used SS sub. He: "Hear you got a Rolex too?". Me: "Yes, its a GMT master, the new model", lifting my wrist to show him. He, suddenly grabbing my wrist and really studying it: "It looks better than mine!". Me: "Well, it depends on your taste bla bla..." 5.) At the lineup in the grosery store I notice the man in front of me is wearing a TT black sub. I don't say anything but he notice and look at my watch. Then he looks at me like I got extremely bad taste or got a fake or something. Probably don't know that the new models have ceramic bessels or can't stand that a younger man got a newer model than him. No word is spoken. Well, my children like it anyway and want their own Rolexes
