Hulk catching up to Daytona

I know some people dislike these price speculation threads but I happen to enjoy tracking the market on watches and am a salesmen by nature.

That being said, It would appear that late model Hulk prices are creeping up into the 40's now with prices bottoming out at $35,000. Sure there's still $30,000 pieces to be had with no box and papers or a story but those are outliers. Same can be said about the ones prices at $50,000+

I believe with its current trajectory though the Hulk will inevitably catch and overtake the steel ceramic black dial Daytona's by the summer. I don't think it will approach white dial territory for a few years yet, or maybe ever, but its interesting to see for the first time ever if I'm not mistaken a steel Submariner encroaching on Daytona values.

The watch market these days there were many instances where I was like “we are at the top” and hoped for a major correction or at least a little dip and nothing.

When will it end? Who knows! At this point I won’t even doubt if someone says the hulk will become a 100k within 2 years. Luckily for me I had for a while and was never my cup of tea. Too much green - can be a little tacky!

Glad I got mine at the right time. I will never let go mine as I don’t actually own it. It belongs to my 4-yr old son as it is his birth watch (wore it during his delivery).

I regret not getting this a year ago when prices were relatively sane. I wanted one for a few years but another piece always came up before I could get to it.
The last 4 months has seen this piece go up at a rapid rate.

That said, I don’t think it will teach Daytona levels. But, this is a crazy world we live so you never know.

The hulk is an awesome piece. Although mass produced and by no means rare, it’s got all the makings of in iconic piece: steel sports Rolex, the most iconic watch on the planet period, the only submariner to ever feature a green dial (Rolex colour), the watch which started the green dial craze, discontinued

I was wearing my hulk today. Was lucky to get it just before the craziness as I love the color green. It is a special watch indeed. However, I would bet Rolex reintroduces the hulk at some point. I am secretly hoping for a green dial and bezel SD43, LOL!

Looking forward to seeing the new 41mm Hulk with the updated case movement and bracelet. Maybe they will do a matte green dial or a more subdued Rolex green like on the OP41.

I love the black Submariner which i consider the most iconic watch ever made and I consider the Hulk an aberration...a bastardization of a great piece. I thought it was hideous the first time I saw it....my wife did too and I never had interest in owning one or wearing one. I think this is very personal as some folks love it and I understand that but for me there is no love for this piece and never will be. The new 41mm green bezel Starbucks/Kermit however I like but not as much as the standard black sub /black bezel. I have very little interest in buying watches as investment pieces and would not buy a Hulk to wear or sell at any price but a Kermit I would take if the AD offered it. If I won't wear it I won't buy it. Perhaps our taste evolve and someday I'll feel differently about this....I used to dislike the Daytona but that is a piece that grew on me and now I own two and wear them most of the time.

With inflation still accelerating and likely not peaking for several more months in many areas, prices will continue to rise. Couple that with a strong high end consumer coming out of the pandemic and demand will continue to outstrip supply, resulting in higher prices for both. The hulk has the scarcity factor going for it, but I don’t think will overtake Daytona in the near future.

Yea,…..No the Hulk isn’t gonna over take the SS Daytona. The Hulk is a niche model with limited appeal. Considering it was available for 10 years and no one liked it 75% of its life span even at a discount below msrp. This coming from a owner of both.

FYI: Some of our trusted sellers have Full box set in mint for $29.8.

I have the watch and I will tell you … you are better off buying a gold sub AD or Grey. It was a nice watch at even 20k but not these prices.

The numbers don’t lie. Don’t be grumpy because you sold yours. And paid grey prices for your Daytona.

Way to much for the hulk. Rolex will release a green dial sub again at some point and prices will drop. Daytona prices, especially panda dials, have historically been high.

+1000

Can't see the value here at these insane prices. I say the same for a Daytona at this current market value but apparently there are those that do. To each their own

Thanks for the market info. With warmer weather arriving, perhaps time for me to dust up the good old Hulk and wear it before it’s too “valuable”.

Its quite likely that Rolex will update all their subs to the new 41mm case. There are rumors the Hulk will come back this year.

I am thrilled as I just bought a new Sub41LV. If I wanted another Hulk, I would have bought one again but way too much green for me and love all the new Sub41 updates as Rolex corrected all the previous blocky maxi case issues. That is a fundamental problem with the Hulk besides too much green for me personally to ever buy one again.
I buy everything through our trusted sellers including my last Hulk and have developed a long relationship with many for several decades.

If anyone is in the Hulk market, Patrick has a mint full box set for $29.8. He is a well respected seller with a beautiful store. I recommend and buy from him.
