Newbie Alert! Any issues with this day date?
Hello all,
I have been reading this forum for a while but recently joind as I am going to take the plunge and buy a ref 118238 day date. I want one with diamond hour markers and a black, blue, or silver dial. I found the one pictured below but it doesn't have papers and I'm wary of making such a big purchase without knowing as much as I would like. So I figured I would reach out to you experts for your advice. The seller says its 100% rolex, but that parts may have been updated as part of routine servicing. My biggest concern is that this may be a frankenwatch and I wouldn't even know. The seller is Capetown Diamonds if that makes any difference. Any thoughts, comments, opinions would be greatly appreciated. |

Looks good on the outside, definitely verify the movement. Also, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is. Personally no box, no papers, no sale.

That watch could easily have been a stolen watch at some point….and you’d only find out when you send it for service and they keep your watch.
I’d never spend that kind of money with that much risk. |

Thanks for the replies everyone!
The seller has the box, but no papers. I asked if I could send the watch to Rolex for service and authentication, the seller said he was okay with that but that he would only offer a refund if Rolex says the watch is stolen or counterfeit. If Rolex says any of the components are not supposed to go on that watch, he will update to correct those components. It is a pretty good price at $28k and the seller has great reviews on eBay and on their website so I'm inclined to get it. I'm also using a credit card so I can open a dispute if something goes wrong. What do you think? Still not worth the risk? |

If it’s something you want and you’ve got all your bases covered in writing then I’d say proceed if you’re willing to fight it out in a court battle if the seller doesn’t fulfill his or her promises. Seems too good to be true to me.

I was so hypnotized by the shine on that watch that I was ready to pull the trigger on this, but at the last minute the seller said they only wanted wire transfer and wouldn't take credit card.
Had to back out, there's no way I'm sending that much money to someone without having some sort of protection. I'm working with DavidSW now to get something that meets my needs. Thanks for all your input everyone, you instilled enough fear/common sense in me to prevent what could have been a big mistake! |

Hard to say. Also it looks extremely shiny, probably heavily polished very recently.
