Was this a serious post, five years with seven to go?

Easy to understand, I think.

Huge increase of people working from home.
That hour spent commuting was spent browsing interest subjects.
Commuter costs became disposable income.

Same happened with musical instruments, although not to the extent of Rolex, guitar stores with empty walls, used prices doubled, all since the pandemic began, but like Rolex people are all over the bubble bursting bandwagon.

I get it from OP’s pov but what a state of affairs we live in. “Let me go butter up the local salesperson at the AD so they’ll allow me to drop $10,000 on a watch that they are otherwise in the business of selling….

I spent $1200 to butter up my salesperson at the AD to allow me to drop $10.6K (MSRP) on a 126610LV and it took her less than 14 days to deliver. I could have paid a "trusted seller" listed here to sell me one for $22-$25K, that's more than twice the price I paid.....and I could have had it the next day...... I can afford to wait....

I wanted a Sub as well. I went to an AD I did have a purchase history with and was told it isn't going to happen (they noted that they get them but they were not going to offer me one). Other ADs offered the 'list' and I didnt personally have much luck.

If you want one in a reasonable timeframe, and you don't want to buy a lot of items, it can be a very hard watch to get if your ADs have others who are willing to ultimately buy more than you in order to get it. I ultimately bought one from HQ Milton. I was okay with the premium and am delighted with the watch.

I would not call it impossible to get. But I definitely would not call it easy.

OP - there was another thread today and the OP waited 6 months for their sub date, I am telling you these subs are moving much faster now from ADs, great to hear.

Not sure about spending $1200, but I thought about dropping off some SEAL Team memorabilia, coffee mugs, hats, shirts etc…

Quick question. Who at the AD makes the decisions on who gets a watch, the salesperson or the manager?

I am sure it’s the manager

The “Official” waiting list? Yeah that one, as good as a binding contract

My salesperson told me when the LV arrived, she told the owner she had a "New" customer in mind and the owner said to call him.

Do you mind elaborating more on the butter piece. Specifically what you did. I can use all the pointers I can get.
Thanks

Do yourself a big favor and don't play these idiotic "list" games with these ADs. They'll take your information and keep you on the line for months and months, maybe even years. In the meantime, you could pay more and have exactly what you want within a couple of days. It took a big bite, but I'm angry at myself for waiting as long as I did to start with. I should have NEVER allowed that garbage to go on past 6 months, tops. Wait if you want, you may get lucky, but believe me the odds of that are long indeed.
I agree with your opinion, but not everyone can afford to pay 2 times more on the secondary market

The ring served as a "butter" piece but I wanted the wife to have it whether I received a Rolex or not. It has small pearls and small diamonds and was listed at $2400 marked down to $1200... On our first visit to the AD, my wife looked at three different rings while I was trying on the Expo Sub. I was willing to take any Sub and associate said let's focus on your first choice, the LV. The associate recorded the stock numbers of the rings on our "contact" card that also had birthday info, Rolex model numbers and all contact info. I remember her asking for my zip code before asking for my address and she said that I was in their "selling area". I told her my birthday was in May and my wife wanted me to have the Sub as a present... A few days later we returned and made the ring purchase for $1200... less than two weeks after I get the call from the associate saying she has a new LV for me.... While there I purchased another $1200 of "butter". I would have purchased the ring for the wife anyway and I considered it as extra "butter" for when I get ready for my next Rolex.... maybe a 124060 or 126710 BLRO next year.

Thank You. My wife's birthday is next month and I have thought about doing something similar. She does not wear a lot of jewelry. She does wear a necklace everyday and I think it is something she picked up at a department store or the Navy Exchange. She wears an Apple Watch, so the watches are out. Thanks again.

I had a similar experience at my AD - bought some jewelry as I was going to buy for my wife anyway and loved the pieces they had to offer and would have gladly bought them for her with or without them being an AD - plus the customer service was amazing - we picked up another piece a month later - that week I got the call for my Sub - again I would have been doing this business with them regardless - but I also received my sought after sub and amazing jewelry for my wife - win-win - and I will be returning for more pieces for me and my wife for a very long time
