Watches are for wearing

Hopefully the current trend of prices coming down for hyped pieces means we have more chance of purchasing from ADs in the long run. Or maybe not. Either way, a nice reminder that watches are for wearing, not for investing in.

Wear your watch, especially in the sunshine

I originally bought mine to wear and I wear them when I can. Sleeves come in handy. I am more reluctant nowadays to wear a nice watch in all situations. I have some less expensive, more prosaic watches which I like and enjoy wearing, but I never wanted a safe queen and I am sorry to have ended up with a few. All things change in time.

Watches are for wearing

I have no issues with anyone buying watches to keep in a safe, show off on Instagram, smash with a hammer or show off smashing watches with a hammer on Instagram.

It’s their money and if they don’t think watches should be for wearing only, it’s their prerogative.

I don’t get this ‘watches are for wearing’.

I don’t think men should wear purple either.

I hope the buying experience at ADs will indeed benefit from this price correction, with possibly more availability for any watch enthusiast.

Better get some bubble wrap around that SD43!

I have the same watch and agree. No safe queens here but I do have different watches for different situations. Good to have a beater and a few non-flex models in the collection for wearing in certain places.

Fully agree OP! I don't have any safe queens.

Then again I see what some of the non-wearers mean. Is it also true that "Gold coins are for spending"? It is a reality that watches today permit speculation. Four years ago no one was buying watches except to wear, these days it's likely the minority.

After putting my watch into good use, is there a way to repair the dents and dings on this bezel? TQ

The dents and dings add "character" to that gorgeous GMT! Leave as is! Great reference!

I collect coins, esp gold coins...I don't spend them, but many are in lucite holders & on display at home. I will change out the display pieces, type sets.

I would not buy them if I never had them around to see & enjoy.

I couldn't agree more with you! Before discovering and then joining this forum nearly three years ago I'd never heard of "safe queens" and people buying a watch for investment. I'm talking about normal watches here: the extremely rare and exclusive time pieces that go for ££££££ or more at Christie's or Sotheby´s auctions and bring their owners huge profits are the exceptions, of course! But that's a whole different world for me, and for you too, probably!

Coins are for spending.

Life is too short to collect coins and not spend them.

Save with stamps. Have a collection? Time to bust it out. The joy is in licking them, slapping them on envelopes and mailing them.

If you buy coins or stamps to make money, you're living your life wrong.

I have NEVER bought a coin (or watch) for investment purposes. None of my coins are graded or slabbed, & I have no intentions to sell. They are for my enjoyment.

Same for my watches.

For all these years, around the world more than once, in far flung places you would never go on vacation, to the iconic cities NY, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Singapore, Beijing, St. Petersburg and many more I wore the watch I wanted, never gave it a second thought. Then COVID and the WOKE crime explosion, stories of bad experiences in Barcelona and LA. But with many friends who travel, own Rolexes, and other fine watches I have yet to meet anyone who's watch has been stolen. I'm on my way to Paris, Madrid, Lisbon and smaller places. For this trip I'm taking my Speedy Pro.

Thought inducing while being thoughtful. I just shoved all my purple bell-bottoms from the 60's into the woodchipper.
