Daytona waiting list = 15 years

I just walked out from the most popular Rolex AD in Greece(kessaris), asking for any Daytona watch with a preference for the half gold black dial model. The seller told me that I can’t make any kind of request, the estimated waiting time is over 15 years… clowns… definitely everything pushed to grey market… ridiculous. Have you been treated like this in a Rolex AD before?

Even in the late 90's it was 2-4 years at the AD for the SS Daytona.

I’m sure they only get four of those watches per year. It’s not inconceivable to think that 60 other people like you have made the wait list 15 years long. They’re not pushing it to grade dealers. There’s just that much demand

Oh,. So back in 1999, walked in bought a two tone black dial and a white dial (both zenith versions) and 10% off. No issues.

Whenever a dealer gives a multi-year wait for a given model, it means you aren’t getting one from them. My AD has a general rule that if they don’t believe they can fulfill your request within 2 years or less, you don’t make the “list.” My longest wait was 9 months for a SS Daytona.
Yes, tutone Daytonas were the red headed stepchild of the family until just a couple years ago but no more. OP, your dealer likely already has plenty of previous customers waiting on what you seek.

Something is fishy. Either you gave them red flags or they’re shady. I’ve been offered this exact reference as it was sitting in the case unsold a few years ago and passed. Waiting for the next gen Daytonas in a year or two. Maybe they’re just a common allocation in my area. I do live close-ish to Daytona.

I’d say that’s a combination of incredibly less demand a few years ago, and also location like you said. I see you’re in Florida, depending which dealership you went to, that could be the third hottest market in the United States. I see the OP is from Athens, I don’t care if that’s Athens Georgia or Athens Greece, he’s not gonna get a watch there

Well hype sells watches today and many buy the hype to wear it, the Daytona has always been hard to get at retail ever since its launch way back in 2000 with the now quite old cal 4130.Back in 2000 you could buy the TT Daytona for what the SS was selling, today the Daytona must be the most hyped Rolex watch ever.

15yrs wait time is a hint to you to purchase other jewellery or watches. Buy some and it will miraculously become 15 months. Buy even some more, it may become 15 days

I was just on vacation in Greece (lovely) and thought to drop by as a tourist but then remembered - there is no point.

I peeked into Kessaris and it’s all exhibit models with folks sitting around empty shelves. Unless you want a two tone Tudor - no point in going in.

I can even blame them though… demand is through the roof, there’s a wealthy clientele and comparatively few stores. What do you want them to sell you?

I honestly think half the allure is that you CANNOT get a Daytona, otherwise many people wouldn’t want one if there’s 5 sitting on a shelf with discount (see Omega / Tag / Breitling). And now we’re upset that they’re not on the shelf…

You're asking for the most sought after watch in the market as a walk-in customer. Of course they will blow you off.

I bought my first Rolex at AD in Jan '21. The white dial Daytona came by Christmas 2021. When you are buying Langes from the pre-owned offering of the AD it really moves the needle.

You've been a member of this forum for nearly a year with 80 posts. Surely, you knew walking in and asking for any Daytona was a complete waste of time.

Next time, try the guaranteed method. "Malaka, thelo Rolex tora."

Wow. Now subs, GMT’s in every variety and explorers i and ii were always available. I can recall fondly back then spending lots of time (back when AD’s were in malls) looking and talking to sales folks. It was fun. Now I just go in and breeze my the Rolex case and look at the other watches.

AD's sure did make a great future marketing phone list for when things dry up.

The fact you cannot buy a Daytona from this AD doesn't mean everything is pushed to the grey market. They are simply trying to maximize their return on the sale of these high demand pieces and also not sell to people off the street with little or no history who will, in the AD's eyes, most likely, immediately flip the watch to the pre-owned market for the huge profit to be made. Just the opposite of what many believe.

Nah.. it's just posturing. They say 15 years, so they will look like a hero when they can get you one in a mere 14 years

And its comments like this, from the A D, that turn so many people off.

I bought my first TT 116523, not 503, in March 2014 from an A D when MSRP was I believe 16,200 for 12,100 with no tax. Still have the receipt.

With soooooooooo many threads talking about the market softening but to an A D it wont matter. Attitudes will remain the same.

OP, why don't you try the two Rolex stores on Kolokotroni and Valaoritou Str.? Especially the latter. Give them a call and arrange a visit in person, you might have a better chance with them. Besides, they are the ones to supply said AD and indeed any and all ADs in Greece.

Good luck

If I'm not mistaken a TT Daytona can be delivered within 6 months, it is usually the easiest one to get among all other Daytona configurations

that 15 year list is them politely telling you it's not going to happen.

My wait was 3 weeks after purchasing a Plat DD40 for an SS Daytona and then approx 1 month waiting for a RG Daytona from expressing interest...

You need to have other spend.
