Need an opinion on Oris Watches
Hello Ladies and Gents,
I was just wondering if anyone can give me any info on Oris watches. Are they worth the buy? How good are they really? What kind of movements are in these things? I think some of them are good looking watches. My curiosity was aroused by one of the exec's at my old job who had a really nice one that I finally asked him about. He recommended them highly and said it was a great addition to his collection. I did a little further research and I may be able to get one at a significant discount. I'm specifically looking at the Artelier Chronograph. Any info would really help. Thanks guys! |

I am a big fan of Oris watches. They have a strong presence and produce a good product at a strong value.
I do not believe they are COSC, thus I have not purchased one. Precision is important to me in a movement. If you don't care about "amazing" accuracy from a mechanical watch, I would definitely pick up an Oris. They are, IMHO, very inexpensive for what you get. They look incredible and I can't imagine they won't catch on more than they have. Who knows, Panerai exploded thanks to a single celebrity. You never know what Oris will be in a decade. No matter. Pick one up and enjoy. |

Chiming in - thanks Paulie!
Simply - no better value for the money. Many really nice ones can be found at terrific discounts, most feature fine-tuned ETA movements (no worse that Hublot Big Bangs, which are 10 times the cost). Oris can proudly say that they never made a quartz watch! Been around for over a century, too. Bang for the buck is second to none, IMO. PM me if you need help locating a model, or have specific questions!

My father had one for over thirty years and no problems, I am now looking to add one to my collection of Omegas. They make a few nice limited editions if you can get hold of them.

Recently sold my TT1 WorldTimer because of lack of use. Oris is a very good value for the $$. Many styles to choose from.

Love my Oris Classic that I got from Mosco. The only thing I changed was fitting a heavy padded crocodile strap to it.

I have a TT1 Diver that I use as a beater when I am in the field. It has been a great watch and has held up very well. As others have stated the accuracy leaves something to be desired as mine runs fast. I am thinking of having it regulated since there are weeks it gets much wrist time. I also agree that are a great bang for the buck. Look around for different sources because I have also seen them heavily discounted at times. Good luck.

I've got an Oris Artelier Skeleton. Amazing value, great design, solid craftsmanship. Truly an underrated maker.

I've owned this one for over a year and it's one of my all time favorites in the dive watch category. Super comfortable and I bought it with the Titanium bracelet and the Oris custom rubber strap as well. Great lume.
Here's a few shots I took: |

I am not a big fan, having owned a COSC watch that could not keep within COSC tolerances. Even after being regulated, 15 seconds off a day was the best it would do. Furthermore, after a couple years, rust inexplicably developed on the inside of the watch (wasn't used for swimming or shower, etc.). Finally, living in Australia, the watch was sent overseas for servicing and returned with a huge crown (not the original), and when I enquired as to why, I was told that particular crown was no longer manufactured(!!!!). Overall, a disappointing experience for a $1,500 AUD watch.

I can understand your disappointment Will. Sometimes even the best brands have lemons. That being said, I believe mechanical watches are just not as reliable as quartz ones. I have read horror stories about Omega, Breitling, so Oris isn't alone.
One very seldom hears about a Rolex having problems. I guess that's why they can afford to ask soooo much!! Cheers |

Oris is very under rated.
I own a full lume dial, titanium TT1 diver that I love. Screaming value for the money (especially when I bought mine), comfortable, runs within COSC spec. I have taken it everywhere and it is a great watch. |

Their cases Come from Fricker which IMHO and many others is one of the best case makers. Period.
They make cases for Kobold,Sinn,IWC (a while ago), RGM, Stowa... and customs... and other mid range watch companies as well and ones they are not allowed to discuss. |
