eBay transactions?
Co-worker just bought a Sub on eBay that was "authenticity guaranteed" process.
I was shocked he went this route but it seems he got a real watch that was in advertised condition. Anyone else and more specifically anyone heard any stories about not-so-happy buyers taking eBay up on this? I use eBay from time time for random things but would have never in a million years considered for luxury watches.... |

theoretically safer than buying from a private user on this website. I believe watches sold on ebay are shipped to an assigned watchmaker at a midway point between the buyer and seller and than authenticated before being shipped to the buyer

I have bought a handful of watches on ebay and never had an issue. The watches that I've bought haven't been highly faked models (nor anything above $6K - $7K).
One of them went through the ebay authentication process. It gave me no more confidence than I had previously as I was confident in the seller before I ever made the purchase. |

I used it for buying a vintage Heuer Autavia and it was returned to the seller because of a couple non original parts that I already knew about.
So I then made a separate deal with the seller for a lot less than the original price and made out very well in the end since I already had the correct replacement parts.

I purchased 1 side of an oysterflex strap on ebay with authenticity guarantee. It turned out to be fake (I made a post here on it awhile back).
I was able to get my money back, but it took a lot of pushing with the seller and correspondence with eBay using the guarantee as leverage. I guess ebay would have taken action on their account had the seller not complied with the refund. For a $300 part it wasn’t a big deal. However had I gone through this with a $xx,xxx watch it would have felt stressful. Just my experience Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Like anything else, a little common sense goes a long way. If the seller is reputable and the watch comes full kit with warranty, papers, etc., then you'll probably be ok

True, except it’s not necessarily a watchmaker. I know secondary market dealers that do this for eBay. I have sneaks been curious…what if it’s found to be fake afterwards? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

But what about other side? You sell real watch, they send fake one back. Paranoid, yes, but I could see that happening.... |

Didn't know they offered the service on watch accessories though.
