Best place to sell

Hi guys

I’m guessing eBay and gumtree etc will just be a nightmare

Im located Southampton U.K.

Who is good for selling to etc?

Is there a kinda trade black book so to speak that puts set prices for trade in trade buy etc?

Call around some local grey dealers and get a feel for the market. In my experience it helps if you are trading a watch in and purchasing a watch from stock. If it's a straight up sale then expect some crazy low ball offers, especially in this market.

I've sold a couple on Chrono 24 but that can be a bit of a minefield, they will also take 6% up to a maximum amount which I'm not sure of.

You can use FB market place ive sold several watches there and currently have one listed. The scammers are easy to spot, and i only meet at a bank to conclude the transaction.

I’m not going to go into what I have as post will get deleted but dealers seem to be advertising between £10000 and 11000

I know you're in the UK but I would try a trusted seller like DavidSW if at all possible. I'm sure the UK has an equal equivalent if its too much hassle to get it to David..

I’d never do business with private persons. Minefield. I would accept less and sell direct to a professional UK seller.

Sports on advice. Takes the hassle of listing it, vetting potential sales, and you get paid quickly.

+1

I would happily lose profit by paying for convenience when selling a watch. The last watch I sold privately was an incredibly frustrating experience.

Have to sift through scammers, tire kickers, and then when I did find my buyer the list of hoops he had me jump through was a nightmare

Agreed … it can be risky unless you accept a wire transfer and funds clear before shipping or if you are comfortable doing a face to face at a bank or police station.

These are the only ways I would do a private deal

I always use Watchfinder.co.uk. You can get the funds into your account roughly between 3 to 10 working days.

I'd avoid private, basically risking a load of hassle for a few extra quid. Not worth it in my opinion, risk vs reward doesn't stack up.

Watchfinder is a good starting point, though their pricing can be a little all over the place. They are the most established, and near enough hassle free. They made me the best offer on a piece recently which I went ahead and sold to them, but have made offensively low offers on other pieces in the past.

I normally have them down as a lowball type outfit, but it's quick and easy. Like I said I got the best offer from them on a piece lately, but that was very much surprising to be fair (have had an offer from them on something else at 50% less than elsewhere which is quite remarkable).

You could try Xupes (have bought and sold from them before). Also suggest calling Dominic from Hackett Watches, very good guy and will give an honest answer/view on the market, etc.

I sold one watch, a Breitling, and it was horrible the amount of hoops the buyer made me jump through. I take close consideration when buying as I never want to do that again !
