Would you trade?

Would you trade a Rolex GMT2 Rootbeer for a YM 42MM WG with cash topup?

Thinking of upgrading to PM rolex, is the YM42MM WG a wise upgrade considering it is a PM rolex? I am worrying the 42mm may wear too big.

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hmm. Might be a stretch to be honest. Are you able to try it on first?

If you love the WG Yachtmaster with all of your heart then why not?! In the end the heart wants what the heart wants. Plus it will save countless hours of looking up countless threads, reviews, wrist shots and YouTube videos of said watch!!
Now if it’s to trade just to trade.. ehh. Having said all that.. there’s prob other factors like how much cash on top and blah blah.. but in the end only you know whether or not the YM sings to you louder than the Rootbeer : )

i only get to see the watch on display didnt manage to wear it on.. the thing bothering about me is the YM 42MM WG maybe too boring in the long run and of course YM is certainly not ass popular as the GMT2

I would keep the GMT. Looks better and is more functional. The Yachtmaster gets boring quickly.

I’d keep that GMT. YMs, other than the 126655, don’t do much for me. The CHNR is more functional and, subjectively, better looking.

Have you tried the YM? Wear what you like ultimately.

That GMT combination is one of the best model Rolex has ever made.

It’s a keeper.

I prefer the GMT over that YM. I’d step up to an all PM Sub, GMT or DD though.

Assume you're talking about the TT CHNR? If so, I would probably do it, but it would depend on how much cash we're talking.

As far as wrist size, mine is similar to yours and it wears very well. But, if you're worried about size, you might want to take a look at the RG version. At 40mm, it wears even a touch smaller than that. Not only that, though, you would get to keep a touch of the RG around in the collection as you're letting go of one of the nicest RG models in the lineup...IMHO, of course. Good luck and keep us posted,

I'd say no.

People also tend to forget that PM are also much heavier.

I wear a 40mm 16710 GMT II and it's right on the cusp of being too big on my 6.75" wrist; a 42mm YM would look like a mantle clock. The GMT is an iconic Rolex with a useful complication, so I would not do the trade.

Bottom line - how much is the cash top-up?

Think the RB TT is one of the most stunning watches Rolex produces, but I don't wear rose or yellow gold so it's not for me. Love the YM42WG though, one of the most underrated watches in the current line up - I'd happily buy it if the price was a little lower.

Just to confirm, the YM you're referring to is the 226659 on OF? This would be a definite no deal for me. First of all, my wrist is smaller and a 40mm is about as large as I can comfortably go. However, I have a friend that has one of these and surprisingly even at 42mm, it doesn't feel too large. I would personally make it a point of trying one on before you make the deal.

Forget size altogether though.....for me personally, that ref never appealed to me. I don't mean to offend anyone who owns one, but the bezel looks so cheap. Reminds me of an ABS piece of plastic. I really wish they would have made the numbers set in WG or colored in Platinum (like on the Sub or GMT) bezels for contrast.

Also, it would have been nice if they made the endlinks built into the case on this model, like they do on the WG Daytona. Gives it a much more finished look imo.

I personally love the CHNR SO much more than the WG YM. However, as others have mentioned.....If this watch captures your heart and "sings" to you, then it's the right one. I'd say go for it then! Good luck in whichever you decide.

Oh, I forgot to add. Double check on the OF. I'm not the expert and I don't own an OF model, but I remember reading that there are different sizes of straps? Hopefully people more knowledgeable can chime in on that. Obviously, it's not like adding or removing links on a bracelet. If you need to purchase the right size OF, that is a cost to consider!

Good point - and definitely something to bear in mind - those straps are not inexpensive.

I know you already made the decision and I would agree with it. If it were me, I'd keep the CHNR and add at a later point. In fact, I am looking to add a RG YM on OF soon. I like both lines and the YM wears so comfortably.
